Mike, I own a Hyundai Accent and an Audi A4.
My Hyundai is 1996 and my Audi is 2006.
Of course Hyundai is no rival to Audi, but I'm telling you the truth, my Hyundai never let me down, it is so stuborn and reliable. For a price that cheap, I recomend you Hyundai Accent. It's been running for Km. 245,000 now(about 163,000 miles), and still have no significant troubles.
One more thing, it's very economics on gas too, mine is
1L : 14km(suburban driving) and about 1L : 11km(city driving).

Well, if you have any doubts, consider reading about the miraculous success that Hyundai is having. They only build 7 model therefore they can not have great success if one of those models were not dependable. If that's not enough information for you, then go visit one of the Hyundai dealership's service department and see that they are strangely, and noticeably not very busy. I would assume that building reliable automobiles would be the only way that they could offer a 100,000 mile warranty. I personally drive a Mercedes-Benz however, I will tell you that I love all the new Hyundai models that have been released this year and also, how fascinating Hyundai has become so overwhelmingly successful. That is a comment you can depend on! Good Luck!

As a Chevy and Hyundai owner (5 Chevys so far, current old one at one battery replacement in 11 years with 200k and only general maintenance), and having owned 2 Hyundai's I've never had to work on at all, I can attest to the quality. Newest Chevy has 7k miles and most recent Hyundai at nearly 10k, the Hyundai has less squeaks and rattles and better fit and finish than the Chevrolet. The newer Hyundai is an SUV and newer Chevy a midsize sedan, the Hyundai gets far better MPG, is quieter, quicker, and more fun to drive. Both companies make great cars. But lately the Koreans seem to be doing a better job and will keep my business into the future. Currently owned vehicles are a late model Malibu and older HHR, and late model Tucson. I like them all. But Hyundai has kept an edge over the american cars for the last 10 years. In terms of reliability, economy, power, and features for the price, as well as warranty. Haven't had to use Hyundai warranty, but have with Chevrolet.

Hyundai has reinvented themselves. Much higher quality cars and suv's than even 5 years ago. J,D. power and associates annual survey on new-vehicle quality came out the other day and Hyundai is now ranked no.1 in non-premium brands. They are No. 3 overall behind only Porsche and Lexus. So yes. I think Hyundai will continue to grow and become even more popular. Hyundai's also come with the 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty and the 5 years unlimited mileage roadside assistance.

Yes, they are pretty reliable. According to Consumer Reports, they are within the top five cars for safety and reliability (measured by number of problems per 100 cars) behind Toyota and Honda, but ahead of all the American cars. They are also very cheap. I would suggest getting an Elantra. By the way, Hyundai is a Korean model, not a Japanese one.

The newer hyundai's are reliable. Hyundai has continued to strive to improve reliability and have made improvements by leaps and bounds compared to the early 90's.
However, the fuel economy of their engines just doesn't seem as good as their Japanese counterparts.

Hyundai is currently third in quality throughout the world. Toyota is still king with a defect rate of 0.08% but Hyundai only recently started focusing on quality instead of cheap cars for the world market. I believe that we will see a luxury line from Hyundai in the next five years just as Toyota made Lexus after a consistent showing of quality vehicles.
