First way,the software is installed by installer. In this case the installer installs the files related to the program, envirement etc. Then after completion of the installation it asks you to run program_name.exe from the specified programs folder in c:/program files/program name.
When you run the exe icon it starts up.

Second way,in this menthod no installation is necessary. Here the software may be small in size running program exe starts the program.e.g.HD-COPY floppy format program.

These are the methods i've known upto the date. There are few others like online only like weather show software etc.

Hope this helps.

There's multiple ways to getting the executable of the software to install for you.

One way is to simply double click the executable file itself to get it running.

Another way is to let it auto-run and follow the prompts for installation.

This way is not widely used, but if you click on Start and select Run then type in the location of the executable file, it will install that way too.

Another way that's like Start/Run is to do the same procedures almost in DOS. By going to the location of the file, and type in the executable's name.
