Hey, before I begin, I would like to tell you that most of the time in my answer i have talked in terms of percentage, bcoz the country where i live in, India, we have assesment in terms of percentage and not grades. So I would like to briefly tell u about our scoring system. Achieving a % of 95 and above is very high(and is comparable to your A's) and 75%average to below average. Exams till the 10th grade usually have 5 or 6 subjects, each of 100 marks, so depending upon your marks the total percentage is calculated.

You should try the following approach to do great in school.

You can't achieve grades by just saying that u want to.The work needs commitment to yourself and your goals.Have a clear cut goal, say, you need to have 95% as your final goal. But work in a step by step manner. Let's put it bluntly, you CAN'T have 95% overnight or even in 1 month. But yes, you could set a primary goal of lets say 80%. Achieve it.Then increase the goal to 87%, achieve it then 92% and then 95%.You should follow this approach.I give you a time frame of 1 yr to achieve the goal. If you want something faster this is not meant for you then.It is not a quick fix solution to help you...we are talking of you being having 75% and going on 95%, it cannot be a sudden jump.Follow these steps

1.Your final exams are lets say 2 months later, and you have a huge deal of syllabus to cover. DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING TO THE VERY END.Start preparing right away.

2.You could adopt 2 kinds of approaches to work on: do any two subjects each day or have a fixed time span to complete one subject. If, the syllabus that is coming for the exams has already been taught in school, i'd suggest you take the second method, but if it isn't you should rather take in the first method. Both are equally good, it depends on you.

3.Make your schedule flexible. Provide for allowances and unexpected happenings. Give yourself a break after every session of 45 minutes. The break should be of 10 minutes and NOT MORE THAN THAT.

4.Your syllabus should be completed in the following manner:
a)LEARNING:You learn everything that is to be covered. After you learn a chapter, ask someone to listen to what you learnt, immediately. After all,you need to bake the pot you have moulded. It really helps. It should constitute 65% of your shedule days
b)1st REVISION: Set some days for the revision of material that you have learnt. Join some class that gives test series or ask someone at home/teachers to test you out. This mauy involve written tests, orals.Essentially this revision should be 25% of your study schedule days
c)2nd REVISION: This is the repition of the above mentioned step but is directly after it

5.For Math you should have lots and lots of practice, I tell you Math can either make your score or break it. The key here is practice. If you aren't good at maths, seek help, join tutions. The key here is that you should have done your book at least THREE TIMES before the exam.TRY TO DO A FEW SUMS EVERYDAY

6.One basic reason why most students don't do so well because of the lack of initiative and the involvement of the parents . Ask your parents not only to help you but monitor you and keep a check on you always.

7.Do not stick to the computer/TV when you know you should hve been studying.

8.Have someone in your class with whom you can have constant competition. Have that "I have to beat that bloody bastard" kind of spirit. It helps!

9. Be truthful to yourself. If you know that you have completed a chapter only superflously and see that others are playing all around acknowledge this fact because "you want to do extremely well at school.

10.Do not get dejected if you aren't able to achive the short term goal. Keep the ultimate goal in your mind. Work hard and be serious, no one can stop you from coming to the head of the class

11. Listen to what the teacher says in school, sometimes they give huge hints about the questions to be asked in exams. Keep your eyes and ears open always.

12. Prepare notes(only if you feel they shall be of help)
They give they crux of the chapter.

13.Try to please the teacher, don't get carried away by the crowd. Teachers get impressed when you ask intelligent questions.Try to ask them questions after the period is over, and ask some kind of super questuion which is somewhat related to what you study in school. Have knowlege on the subject yourself and then engage in a discussion, she'll be damn impressed!

I think this may be yery lengthy but i am sure it will help u. I myself have written it and have been a topper throughout. If u have any queries feel free to contact me at tushar16032000@yahoo.com

Drop all of your friends and become a book worm.!!!! or Just slow down on phone calls, hanging out with friends and t.v. and ask your parents to get you a tutor. Even if you are good in a particular subject you should still study and work on maintaining your grades. Maybe you can also set a schedule for studying for 2 hours a night and maybe 2-3 hours on the weekends. Your behavior at school also helps your grades. If you talk too much that effects it and if you don't participate enough that can also effect it. If I knew all of this and had proper guidance maybe I would have been a Straight A student. Try finding websites that can help you out. Good Luck! It sounds like you have a strong family circle who can help out with your academics.

I will assume that you are already working hard, studying, doing your homework, etc.

Which subject areas do you need to improve? How many subjects? Find people in your class who are getting straight A's in those areas and talk to them. What do they do to help them get A's?

You might want to consider a tutor. That may help if the problem is that you don't understand some of the concepts in those subjects.

Talk to your teachers and ask what they think. They know you, and may be able to give you the best advice about how to improve your grades.

Then consider that not everyone is meant to get straight A's. If you are doing your best, and you try some things and you still don't get straight A's, be happy with who you are.

Best of luck to you.

Study harder, and do all your homework. What helped me, many years ago, is build a relationship with your teachers, where you can do extra credit, if you are borderline, to help you get to the A level. Just building the relationship with the teacher, might help you get the A if you are on the cusp of the A and B. The teacher is a human, and appreciates a student that wants to get A's.

#1 advice = Ask the questions! You have questions or may not fully understand some of the material. You know where you are missing information...but its up to you to ask the teacher about it either at the time you realize it or after class maybe on a one-to-one moment with the teacher to avoid feeling embarassed to ask in front of friends! The fact that you WANT to improve was the biggest part of battle!! Keep the fire of knowledge going !!

Absolutely, you need to start taking extra notes in class. Even when its not an assignment. You can also try not to forget things in your locker by writing in a planning book. Use sticky notes whenever possible because not only are they fun, they are useful. Also get your eyes checked for crappy vision. that helps alot.

cheers

Cheat. Just kidding

Its not always about studying harder...it's about studying right.

There are a whole bunch of book on studying. You might want to hop to your local library and check some out.

Also asking for help...so you are on your way :)

Impress the teachers of your weaker subjects with some obscure facts - they will soon think you are interested in their subjects.
