i found this interesting

The New World Translation of the Bible is Jehovah's Witnesses own translation, no other religious group uses this Bible and Jehovah's Witnesses make very little use of other Bibles.

The translators of The New World Translation were: Nathan Knorr, Albert Schroeder, George Gangas, Fred Franz, M. Henschel

"Fred Franz was the only one with any knowledge of the Bible languages to attempt translation of this kind. He had studied Greek for two years in the University of Cincinnati but was only self-taught in Hebrew." ["Crisis of Conscience"; by Raymond Franz; Commentary Press, Atlanta; 1983 edition; footnote 15; page 50.]

Four out of the five men on the committee had no Hebrew or Greek training at all, and only a high school education. Franz studied Greek for two years at the University of Cincinnati, but dropped out after his sophomore year. When asked in a Scotland courtroom if he could translate Genesis 2:4 into Hebrew, Franz replied that he could not. The truth is that Franz was unable to translate Hebrew or Greek.

What we have is a very inexperienced translating committee that twisted Scripture to make it fit the Society's doctrine.

It truly amazes me how little people know about Jehovah's Witnesses, and how much prejudice there is about them. The answers that list http:/www.watchtower.org are the ones to believe. That is the official site for Jehovah's Witnesses. Go to the source.

Some of the answers given were about mormons...they are not the same.

The money that is taken as voluntary donations are used world wide to help people learn about the Bible, no one in NY is getting rich.

First want to say I know for a fact there is only one True Web Site for Jehovah,s Witnesses. It is http://www.watchtower.org/ Remember when everyone laughed at noah while he was building the Ark? Noah gave those people a through Witness and they could have listened and went into the Ark with Noah and his family. Similarly today a great witnessing work is being done today. Matthew 24:14- And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come. This is the command Jesus gave us to do. Jesus also said at Matthew 24:37-39 that people would still be doing the same as in Noahs day, and Gods Day would be instantly upon them. I can tell you to do what 1Tim.4:16 says Pay constant attention to yourself and to your teaching Stay by these things, for by doing this you will save both yourself and THOSE WHO LISTEN TO YOU. Always check into matters yourself and never listen to heresay. Look at matthew7:13-23. Jesus said broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction , but the road leading to everlasting life is narrow and cramped and few are the ones finding it. So look very carefully at what you don,t understand and remember that when Jesus came to this earth they didn,t believe that He was the promised Messiah and they killed him. Jesus is the truth the way and the light, and he taught bible truths from house to house and villiage to villiage and he wasn,t excepted favorably either. In fact at one point the crowds tried to kill him while He was only trying to teach them bible truths but they didn,t want to hear him. The truths he brought to them rubbed them the wrong way. Perhaps the people considered His knock at the door annoying as well. That knock at the door is out of Love for neighbor. God is sounding the warning by the preaching work. If people think knocking on doors comes natural they are wrong. Again I say this is out of Love for you and everyone spoken to. But this is a God given work that must be done, and when it is done to Gods satisfaction Gods day will come. Please pay attention and reasonably look up some scriptures from the web site prove to yourself what the Truth is. Thankyou for the thought.

Jehovah's Witnesses are members of an international religion that claims to be the restoration of first-century Christianity. From their inception they have been concerned with the second advent of Jesus. Initially holding many similar views of other 19th century Adventist groups, such as the Millerites, they have since developed their own unique eschatology. They trace their origin to the religious movement known as "Bible Students" which was founded in the late 1870s by Charles Taze Russell. Following a schism that erupted in 1917, those who remained supportive of the Watch Tower Society adopted the name Jehovah's Witnesses in 1931 under the leadership of Joseph Franklin Rutherford.

Well, they believe, among other things, that you should not receive a blood transfusion and that you should D I E before receiving it. Yes, like it sounds. And not now with the AIDS. Longer before AIDS they were saying it.
Besides, they believe that Jesus was not God, but that He was created like any other creature, something that was defined as wrong since the IV century

They believe in:
(1) Bible: Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God, and instead of adhering to a creed based on human tradition, they hold to the Bible as the standard for all their beliefs.
(2) God: They worship Jehovah as the only true God and freely speak to others about him and his loving purposes toward mankind. Anyone who publicly witness about Jehovah is usually identified as belonging to the one group - "Jehovah's Witnesses."
(3) Jesus Christ: They believe, not that Jesus is part of a Trinity, but that, as the Bible says, he is the Son of God, the first of God's creations; that he had a human existence and that his life was transferred from heaven to the womb of a virgin, Mary; that his perfect human life laid down in sacrifice makes possible salvation to eternal life for those who exercise faith; that Christ is active ruling as King, with God-given authority over all the earth since 1914.
(4) God's Kingdom: They believe that God's Kingdom is the only hope for mankind; that it is a real government; that it will soon destroy the present wicked system of things, including all human governments, and that it will produce a new system in which righteousness will prevail.
(5) Heavenly life: They believe that 144,000 spirit-anointed Christians will share with Christ in his heavenly Kingdom, ruling as kings with him. They do not believe that heaven is the reward for everyone who is "good"
(6) The earth: They believe that God's original purpose for the earth will be fulfilled; that the earth will be completely populated by worshipers of Jehovah and that these will be able to enjoy eternal life in human perfection; that even the dead will be raised to an opportunity to share in these blessings.
(7) Death: They believe that the dead are conscious of absolutely nothing; that they are experiencing neither pain nor pleasure in some spirit realm; that they do not exist except in God's memory, so hope for their future life lies in a resurrection from the dead.
(8) Last days: They believe that we are living now, since 1914(this is a biblical mathematical calculation), in the last days of this wicked system of things; that some who saw the events of 1914 will also see the complete destruction of the present wicked world; that lovers of righteousness will survive into a cleansed earth.
(9) Separate from the world: They earnestly endeavor to be no part of the world, as Jesus said would be true of his followers. They show genuine Christian love for their neighbors, but they do not share in the politics or the wars of any nation. They provide for the material needs of their families but shun the world's avid pursuit of material things and personal fame and its excessive indulgence in pleasure.
(10) Apply Bible counsel: They believe that it is important to apply the counsel of God's Word in everyday life now - at home, in school, in business, in their congregation. Regardless of a person's past way of life, he may become on of Jehovah's Witnesses if he abandons practices condemned by God's Word and applies its godly counsel. But if anyone thereafter makes a practice of adultery, fornication, homosexuality, drug abuse, drunkenness, lying, or stealing, he will be disfellowshiped from the organization.

Many people dislike JW because they go around knocking on people's doors. But isn't that what Jesus and his followes did? Jesus preached in the temple, on the mountain, in the market places, work places. He went around preaching to people about the good news. So next time a JW knocks on your door, give him/her a chance.
