I found a dead kitten in my garage this morning. Probably about 6 weeks old. It contained one puncture would up close to its shoulder blade. It isn't ours. I have a tom cat that is a very aggressive hunter. We live in the country and he is a totally outdoor cat. I have seen it catch a rabbit as big as him. I just wanted to know if this cat could have killed this kitten. I am expecting a litter of kittens any day and don't want him to kill them. We have several cats and have had kittens and I have never seen him do harm but I have no idea what has gotten this kitten or what happened.

Rabbit is right, that is why a Tom kills kittens that are not his own. Normally a Tom will not kill his own kittens, cats make very good fathers. Even the big old Lion, King of the Jungle, will not kill his own cubs. But a stray Lion will, to bring mom back into heat and to ensure that it is his kittens that will carry on his genes. Domestic cats are very much like the big cats and that is just cat instinct.
Did your cat do it is another story, who knows what would kill a kitten outdoors, it could have been anything, so I would not be too quick to jump to conclusions.

Tom cats generally are territorial and aggressive when it comes to other cats or kittens getting on their turf. A tom cat, if given the chance, will kill their own children too! Is your tom cat the father of your new litter of kittens to soon arrive? Be very careful with your new kittens and your tom cat. Is your tom cat fixed? This may tame him down some. But I'm not sure 100%. If you are not satisfied with any of these answers in this forum, I strongly suggest you ask your vet he or she may be able to help you more.
Good luck to you and may you and your cats and kittens have many years to enjoy one another's company and friendship.

Yes. Tomcats kill kittens. That is why the mommy cats get vicious once they deliver.

yes and they frequently kill young kittens that are not theirs to throw the queen (female cat) back into heat so they can breed her and pass on their own genes. One of nature's nasty devices to make sure only the strong and fittest live.
