Unfortunately they can follow and record you for as long as the claim is open. I've had this happen to several of my legitimate patients (and a few illegitimate as well). If you have an attorney on the claim, you should discuss this with your legal counsel. They may be able to get the insurance company to back off.
If you don't have legal counsel, I typically tell my patients not to hire an attorney until 1.) the insurance company starts denying everything or 2.) you begin to feel harassed by the insurance company.
Good luck!

If they suspect fraud, they may stop a constatant, but they will most likely check on your each year at least once for 10 years or more, Since if you keep accepting checks, it is an on going crime for fraud. If it was a one time settlement, it will be till the statue of limitation for that crime in your state ends

If fraud is suspected, they'll follow though until they are either satisfied that it's legitimate, or get proof of fraud. That can take several years in the worst cases.
Unfortunately, there's nothing that you can do about it. Some fraudsters have spoiled it for everyone.

They will stop when your case is closed. Until then, their job is to make sure you're not scamming the government and wasting taxpayer money.
