The world is not a monolithic whole to have one teacher. Again teacher is a relative word, hence there is none whom the whole mankind has accepted as a teacher. Christ was crucified by the Jews, Muhammad is being condemned for having licenced violence in the name of God, and these days we have many teachers none of whom has yet reached the level of Jesus and Muhammad. There were Great teachers born at different times and emancipated people in different parts of the world at different contexts of history, but none of them is the Greatest. If there is anyone the Greatest he is yet to be born! perhaps he will be the God incarnate.

The Buddha, Lao Tzu, Socrates. Not sure. Jesus only taught for 3 years so I don't think I can give it to him though.
To the dear lady above me Kung Fu Tzu (Confucius) learned a lot from Lao Tzu and regarded him to be a great teacher.

Many would say it has to be experience. But i dont totally agree because a lot dont learn from their experiences and continued commiting mistakes they have done before. Besides the question is "Who."
I would say, its the MOTHERS, who else. From childhood until we learned to live by our own. She has been our dedicated, loving and patient mentor. I've learned a lot from my mother not only the basic ABC but most importantly the ABC's of life. :-D
