The best plan is to forget about the backstabbing SOB.
It's people like you who wind up in abusive relationships that they can't get out of. Keep going back for more abuse if you like to be abused.
Next year you can ask us how to get out of it. You probably won't take good advice then either. Some girls just need their fix of abuse.

If you like his best friend then just invite him for coffee and leave the jerk out of it.

Bad idea. Not only are you roping the friend into an extremely awkward situation, but you're giving your ex a built in support system, so he has all the social power and can accept or reject as he pleases. If it was one of your friends along, he'd feel alienated and outnumbered.

Just bite the bullet and handle it one-on-one. Any awkwardness will be bypassed as soon as you reach a clear resolution. Then just sit and enjoy your coffee with your new friend.

No Just let the backstabber go. Eventually you will run into him again and he might ask you for coffee or a drink. Just because someone is charming doesnt mean you have to have a peaceful friendship. Let things ride for awhile he will come around.

Sounds o.k. to me you could also ask your friend along! But if your Ex is backstabbing why bother. Move on

the best solution would be to keep him out of your life, is he worth it, "backstabbing ex" sounds like its not . Move on. do you need backstabbing friends?
