Joe and Holly and Ted and Lucy all live in the same house at 111 Maple St. Joe and Holly went out to a movie, and when they returned Lucy is lying dead on the floor in a puddle of water and broken glass. It is obvious that Ted killed Lucy but Ted is neither arrested nor severely punished. How come?

ted is a cat and lucy is a fish. ted knocked over the fishbowl,it broke causing water to be on the floor,and the piece of glass and lucy died because fish can't live without water.

Lucy is the goldfish. Ted is the cat trying to get at the goldfish, but knocked down the goldfish bowl instead. The sound of the bowl smashing made Ted scarper.

Well, this is a stab in the dark......since there was no pool of blood is it possible that she was poisoned and the police do not have enough evidence in which to arrest anyone for the murder.
or....perhaps she took an overdose and killed herself.
