When does a puppy of a big breed start to first be in heat? And is it better to let a female dog have at least one litter of puppies first, and then neuter her?

Some large or giant breeds go into heat as late as 18 months.

Unless you plan to get ALL the health clearences and have her evalusted by other breeders for quality, spay her before she comes into heat. If all dogs had a litter before being spayed, there would be way more puppies and dogs being euthanized daily then there are now. There is NO reason to let her have a litter first. A tucked up vulva is no reason. It doesn't matter in the least.
It is cheaper and easier on the dog if you have it done before a litter and before a first heat cycle. With every heat cycle a dog goes through, the chance of breast cancer increases. If you spay her before the first cycle, her chance of breast cancer is almost zero.
Unless you know A LOT about breeding and want to spend a lot of time and money, do not let her have a litter.

They may go into heat as early as 6-9 months old, but it may not happen until they are as old as 15-18 months. You should NOT let your dog have a litter of puppies before spaying her. You need to get her spayed as soon as possible, there are very few reasons why she should even be allowed to go through a heat cycle before spaying her.

They can go into heat usually around 6 months, some bigger breeds will take a bit longer. There are very few reasons to let them go into heat (no reason to let them have pups) the only one I know of is if they have a very tucked up vulva, letting them go through a heat cycle or two can help enlarge it some so that it is not so tucked up.

First heat cycle in very large dogs is normally 7-10 months. There is no reason to let your dog have pups unless you own a champion. Please spay your dog. Millions are put to sleep every year, don't add to the problem.

Is she a St. Banard? Because if she is you might want to get her spade as soon as your done breeding her. Or any other big breed of dog. I had a st.banard and we didn't even breed her but she was so expencive to breed we ended up putting off getting her spade. Because of this she is now dead. She could of had the surgery but it was too late because her kidney's were ******... So get her spade as soon as possible.
