That is a very good question. This is why, 'People do not create TRUTH; they reach out to comprehend it.'
Even if we ignore the evidence and assume that Jesus was killed on a cross, should it be venerated? No, for Jesus was executed as a criminal, like the men impaled alongside him, and his manner of death misrepresented him in the worst way. First-century Christians would not have viewed the instrument of his execution as sacred. Venerating it would have meant glorifying the wrong deed committed on it, the murder of Jesus.
If your dearest friend were executed on false charges, would you make an image of the instrument of execution (say a hangman’s noose or an electric chair or the rifle of a firing squad) and then kiss that replica, burn candles before it, or wear it around your neck as a sacred ornament? That would be unthinkable. So, too, with the adoration of the cross. The fact that the cross is of pagan origin only makes the matter worse.
The veneration of the cross is not Christian. It does not show love for God or Christ but mocks what they stand for. It violates God’s commandments against idolatry. It reveres a pagan symbol masquerading as Christian. (Exodus 20:4, 5; Psalm 115:4-8; 1 Corinthians 10:14) To consider a pagan symbol as sacred violates God’s command: “Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have? . . . ‘Quit touching the unclean thing.’”—2 Corinthians 6:14, 17.

We can use a symbol of death because Jesus triumphed over death. He would object to people wearing it without faith, as only a piece of jewlery, and call them hypocrites.
Christians used the fish symbol during Roman persecution as a secret symbol to identify other Christians. The Romans never caught on. The cross wasn't widely used until Constantine in the 4th century.

I'm not a Christian but I sometimes wear a cross. Jesus knew he was going to die at the hands of others and yet he didn't run and hide. He knew that only his body would die and that he was going to live on. I know Jesus as a man not a super being. When I wear the cross it reminds me of his faith in his truth. I also understand that I will not die when this body does and I guess the cross is a reminder of our connection.

I think Jesus would see it as a symbol of what he did for us, and that the person wishes to remember him by wearing it. If done sincerely, it would be ok. If done in a shallow thougthless way would achieve no value. Christians do wear fish and other symbols too...

It's pagan.
2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what sharing does light have with darkness? 15 Further, what harmony is there between Christ and Be´li·al? Or what portion does a faithful person have with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement does God’s temple have with idols? For we are a temple of a living God; just as God said: “I shall reside among them and walk among [them], and I shall be their God, and they will be my people.” 17 “‘Therefore get out from among them, and separate yourselves,’ says Jehovah, ‘and quit touching the unclean thing’”; “‘and I will take YOU in.’” 18 “‘And I shall be a father to YOU, and YOU will be sons and daughters to me,’ says Jehovah the Almighty.”

We had this question a couple of weeks ago. Didn't St. Paul or Jesus say something about each of us baring his/her own cross? Well....
Also, with all good wishes, will the people who keep saying that Catholics are not Christians cut it out. It's really growing tiresome.

The action at Calvary saved everyone who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It would be a continual remembrance.
JFK didn't save mankind, nor did Martin Luther King or Princess Diana. Jesus died in our place.
Thank you for this sacrifice.

Crosses have always given me the creeps... nevermind that Christ didn't die on a cross, but a stake.... if my son got shot, I would NOT put a little gun charm around my neck to remind me of it. That's just sick! I suppose they just aren't informed is all.
