many of those responding to this have never been stay at home parents. judging by their closed minded greedy answers. i am a stay at home mom to a 3 year old boy. i gave up my job in order to have him. i am with him 24-7 and get little to show for it. other than a happy healthy child. i think this giverment of ours should give somme ss credit to stay at home moms. children who grow up in a home with one parent always present grow up more well rounded more disciplined and eductionally advanced, most daycares and stay at home baby-sitters. dont take the time to rear other peoples kids they let them run wild. i have seen this. i myself from time to time babysit others children so they can work and i treat them like my own. stay at home moms is the only job with lousy hours and even worse pay. geez yall give us something in the end.

Definitely. The Social Security system is punishing those of us who stayed at home, or even held part-time jobs while raising our children. Why. If the children get the correct upbringing there would be far less crime in this Country. The SS system is not being drained by stay at home moms, it is being drained by other blunders of their making. If a man marries one person, divorces her after a set number or years, marries again, and again, the Social Security System, upon his death, will pay each wife, past and present monies he paid into Social Security. His wife and ex-wives may never have been employed, yet this is how the System works now. A full time mother is holding, at home, a full time job, and should not be penalized. I know this as I did it, and worked only when feasible. My total Social Security Check is $400 a month, even though I worked the required number of quarters to qualify. Is this fair? If I had not worked at all I would get one-half of my husband"s benefits. All things being equal I think the law has to be changed, Widows that were divorced before a man,s demise should not qualify if he remarried especially more than once. We have a Nationwide Crisis due to this. Someone has to change it, before there are no monies left in the System.

alright heres some facts children. When social security was created by Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 40's it was meant as SUPPLEMENT for retirement not the means. It was meant to also encourage people to save for themselves for retirement. This is also the exact reason why 401k's were set up. It was also set up that every dollar that was put in you would recieve back. So unless these mothers contrubute to the system (which has been pilfered by greedy politicians anyway) then they should not get one red cent of social security. Alot of people dont see it this way but its "robbing peter to pay paul" In order to give money to these unemployed moms you have to rob me and every other american of tax dollars to do it. Just because her job is tough doesn't mean she should get something for nothing. She is doing what she is supposed to do and that is to raise her children. If they want money for social security then get a part time job for like 4 hours a day and then she will contribute to the system and thus be able to recieve benefits when she comes to retirement age. Now you want to hear hard, I know alot of good moms that have a fulltime job while the kids are at school and have time to spend with their children now thats hard. the "stay at home" mom today is an easy way out because its turning into a luxury because today in most families both parents have to work to support themselves.

well, i wrote the question. And as i response to some. I do teach my kids what I know. I work around the house and the yard and I am going to college while raising 5 kids while my husband works. I have some kids disabled and must be monitored fulltime and daycares will not take 2 of my kids. My others go to school half a day and learn at home rest of the day, I bring my husband a hot lunch thats fresh because i love him. He works 3 jobs and owns a business also. we pay our 15% each year in taxes and all other taxes they want. I would be happy to pay a percentage of our income to get benifits. I am not just trying not to work by no means. I help with our business alot. I have several cetifications(spelling?) and working on a degree. I think if a mom needs to be home she should have something to help later. And for those who commented on our Soc Sec. system I think the goverment is doing it wrong. I think they should up the taxes to cover people as needed. I don't mind paying more for the reitired or disabled people who can't work. I myself hope that one day I will be able to recieve it when I get 75 or so. If that means paying more taxes fine then do it and stop complaining! I think moms deserve to get ss credits at least. I have had many men ask me this question and thought i would get opinions. My daughter took cat test and got maxium grade for the country. She is very smart. I starting teaching her the day she was born from tapes to workbooks to videos to computer and other languages. My son is the same way. very smart. As for my spelling and grammar who cares it just a computer question and statement and not a test. I have made hi scores on all my test. And with responsbility of kids comes being a mother first. If you want kids you should be with them not letting strangers raise them for you what type of parent is that? I am not asking for money right now. I am saying in future when moms retire at like 70ish-75 they should get credits toward there field being a mom. Why shouldn't I be able to draw from the system i put my money in at 15% for each job my husband has or I will or have held in the past or I am working on now?I am satified with my money now and happy with what i have. I am in need of nothing !

I am a keep at dwelling mother, I do my possess hair, I clip my possess nails, I force a quality (now not fancy) automobile, and I receives a commission each time I see my little one smile, develop, and broaden. The factor is that I prefer to stick at dwelling. My husband works complete time (can pay taxes) and we (my husband and I) do with out (plenty) simply to make certain our youngsters have the whole thing that they want. I do not desire the federal government to deliver us any cash for what I do, in view that we're doing simply great on our possess. There are too many persons in the market with disabilities, and many others. that NEED the money. Besides, when you do sufficient study you'll discover anybody to support out together with your children. Not all little one care offerings, babysitters, academics, or church buildings are dangerous. As for the step-mum or dad trouble, when you are not inclined to believe the fellow you marry together with your children, both wouldn't have children or do not marry him! Next time use spell examine earlier than filing your query, it's going to make you look a LITTLE much less ignorant.... only a proposal.

No way, this is a system set up for wage earners to pay into and get benefits later in life. Have your husband pay you so you can then turn around and put your 15% into the system. Do you really teach your kids everything you know? hope not on the spelling!!!

No I don't think they should get social security for that. All of us pay into social security in order to collect it later in life. If you want to get the benefits then you need to pay for them.

Why is it that people think that my tax dollars should go to somebody who is not doing their fair share?

Look, I think stay at home mothers do a very valuable and admirable job but the fact remains that they are not paying into the system and therefore should not be able to collect.

No.

Having kids is a choice, and that choice includes sacrifices of time and energy. Want to make money? Get a job like the rest of us paying into the system.

Why not. Moms should be paid to be moms instead of babysitters - no offence to babysitters -but i'd rather be home watching my own kids if i could afford to stay home.

I live in Canada and we pay people who stay with kids and have no job prospects - called Ontario works. Doesn't pay enough to convince me to stay home

No. Alot of "stay at home moms" do it just so they don't have to work. If I have to go out and work to raise my family and save for my children's future and mine. Then so shouldn't everyone else!
