Whenever I see birds in cages I feel like crying because I can't let them out. Human beings are horrible to animals. If we had more compassion for animals we'd be better people and we'd be happier too. I think it's unawareness of our own feelings that lets us do it.

It is wrong to keep birds in cages without letting them out at all but some birds quite like their cages. I have 8 Rosellas, all get freedom out of a cage for at least 7 or 8 hours a day. The first pair I bought are free in my home all the time and have the choice of going into their cage or not. They also have an aviary which they can fly in and out of. Believe it or not, they spend at least one third of their day in the cages. This is because they have the choice of staying in the cage or not and the cage door is always open so they know they can always get out. When I bought my first two birds, both of them were cage-bound. They were 1 year old and had never been out of a cage. It took me 11 months of opening the cage door every day to get them to come out of the cage. After that, they never looked back.

I think it is so cruel to keep birds in a cage. Some birds spend their entire life in a cage without ever being freed. Birds were given wings to use. My birds love using their wings. It is the one thing they have over us and makes them feel superior. It makes them so happy.

No, not at all - it depends on the type of bird.

If the bird is wild, yes, it's wrong to catch a bird from the wild and keep it in a cage - that would be extremely cruel, and deprive the bird of the surroundings it grew up in, and also deprive it of its social interactions. Although, if a wild bird is very badly injured, sometimes living in human care is its only option for surviving - this is certainly a good thing, and wild birds definitely can bond to their chosen humans.

However, if the bird was born in captivity, in a caged environment, it would be very cruel to release it out into the wild. Because birds that have grown up in a cage or an aviary don't usually know how to find food for themselves - all they know is to go to their bird-bowls for food. They're incapable of finding food for themselves, and they also haven't learnt how to avoid predators such as cats, foxes, owls, eagles. If you let a caged bird out into the wild, he won't live long. And this is even more the case if it's a species which has been bred for a very long time - for example, canaries have been so specifically bred, for hundreds of years, that they don't look that much like their wild ancestors anymore, and have completely lost their abilities to survive in a wild environment, after 100s of years and 100s of generations being cared for by humans.

And never forget - the animals which have been domesticated to live alongside humans, sometimes over thousands of years, are gaining benefits too - properly-cared-for companion animals invariably have much longer lives than their wild counterparts do, and spend their lives well-fed, safe and warm. And they socialise with their humans too.

It is wrong to keep them in the cage and never come out but to keep birds is not wrong. As long as you provide proper care and a large cage it is fine. Many people buy tiny cages for their birds and that is when it gets cruel. In fact some species of parrots are domesticated, so they have really become pets.

I think it wrong if you keep your bird looked up all the time. My bird stays in his cage during the day and when i get home i let him out, he doesn't have his wings clipped and he loves to get out and fly around the house, but he also likes to be in his cage, because its his area and that's were he feels most safe,so i dont think its wrong to keep them in the cage, just as long as you get them out.

I think birds are kept in cages to protect them. I think birds should fly too, but I think the cages prevent them from getting into danger of the outside(predators, hunters, etc.)

It's ok as long as you let them out for exercise flights in the house. You might have to clip the wings a little so they don't fly into a window or wall. Close shades and blinds while they are out of the cage.

I think yeah.....birds shud fly.

But these days.......The bird hunters catch birds and keep em like that for many months so that the birds forget how to eat and hunt in the wild.

The birds are then sold.....without the ability to hunt food in the open.
So what can we do???

we gotta keep em in cage or else if we let em fly they'll die!!
