Dear,
Rather you should have asked "Why we are unable to understand the religious people?" In this present times, the values of life are changed altogether. Now a days, young one think that they can do any thing in the "open". They must know there are certain things which are kept secret. Every thing is explained in above lines, if you can follow then the best otherwise you can keep thinking that religious people are ridiculous. In reality, we are unable to understand the values properly.

I am religious. I don't believe I'm ridiculous.
What I think is ridiculous is people trying to classify an entire group by the actions of a few.

They are not ridiculous. I'm a Hindu. Some people might think it's ridiculous to worship Lord Ganesh, because he is an elephant. Or it might seem odd to worship a cobra. Or the Yogis that lay on beds of nails, or walk around naked, might seem ridiculous. But, when you understand the meanings behind religious acts, it's not ridiculous.

Too many people can be over zealous to the point of ridiculous when it comes to things they're passionate about and these nuts aren't confined to religous circles... I've met quite a few (racial) bigots and athiests who were completely ridiculous and pushy with their beliefs... I will agree that there are plenty of nutty religious types, but maybe you percieve them all to be ridiculous simply because their message is unimportant to you... it's quite likely that many of them are very nice sane, folks who simply have a message that you don't care to hear.A word from the wise "Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others, even the dull and the sluggard for they, too, have their story to tell" -Shalom

I will first state that I am Christain.
Religion, like Christianity, is a place to feel secure in this world, but some people make religions seem so RIDICULOUS. If people actually did follow Jesus and accept everyone instead of saying, "Kill the gays, muslims, pregnant daughters", we won't have questions like this one.

"Damn... ridiculous" sound like your an integrist. Is that it ?
Denying you the right of your beliefs in life, would you like it ?
There is all sort of integrist, they are of any religion (catholic, muslim, whatever else...)
You should go and see the movie "da vinci code" or better read the book. Because, they are just human beings like you with their qualities and the rest.
We should be able to live in a world for everyone, those who believe nothing, the ones with beliefs.
I BELIEVE that we must never upset the spirit of the trees, because they could force you to stop your actions (like destroying the forest). I believe in the spirit of mother nature that makes its way.

I used to think Religious people were ridiculous too, untill i became a Christian.
When you come to realise that there are spirits out there, you gotta say well maybe there is a God.
But people who who do religious rituals in public are only doing it to impress men/women,they don't know God.

...hmm...this from a person who goes on to ask "if Jesus rode a bicycle woud he have a gay flowery basket". As it is written...
"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. Matthew 7:1-5 :o)

Well, if I am ridiculous because I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and do what I can to please Him, because I know that He died for my sins and the sins of every other person in the entire world, then I am PROUD to be ridiculous!!!!!

1Co 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
1Co 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
1Co 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
There are alot more verses I could use, but I think you get the point.
