my daughter who was 14 at the time also suffers similar symptoms. In addition to rashes, neck stiffness, and low blood pressure, at times her potassium level drops from normal to zero in the blink of an eye. Limbs become stiff then paralyzed and if not treated immediately, paralysis can reach the lungs and heart. My daughter has an idiopathic disease called hypokalemia. It is difficult to diagnose since it can come and go before you can see a doctor. As with you, my daughter was originally thought to lose potassium through vomiting which was not the case.

I am a diabetic, who was hypoglycemic before I switched. The number of various and seemingly unrelated symptoms I was experiencing as a hypoglycemic was alarming. As your daughter is in puberty, if she has hypoglycemia, the hormonal changes could be bringing on these symptoms. Have the doctor do a fasting blood insulin test. If that shows greater than 10, have the doctor give her a 6-hour glucose tolerance test. Also have the doctor rule out candida as a cause of the rash. Candida (yeast) affects those who have high insulin. Low potassium is common in diabetics, too.
