May I suggest Iceland: a truly unique place - the Icelanders are near the top of per-capita income but live in tin houses (embassies included). It's the only country I know of where primary school kids take official paid summer jobs.
There are virtually no trees, but endless plains covered in lava and/or blue lupins. There are almost no asphalted roads outside Reykjavik and the only road going around the island is mostly gravel and one-lane. You can walk inside ancient deserted volcano craters and swim in natural hot water ponds and lagoons. Although you don't notice it, the earth is constantly bubbling under the crust, and makes you wonder when it will erupt again.
You can try one of the weirdest delicacies - rotten shark meat - washed down with aquavit (not all food is that eccentric, though). There are guided excursions to spot elves; the summer nights are (almost) white; there is one of the world's largest and strongest energy fields in Snaefellsnes and an eerie outworldy silence. I was spellbound.
Or New Zealand. I don't know where to start from. Simply awsome, mate.

Given you are from London, I'd say travel Europe for experiences.
You have an EU passport so you can travel throughout Europe wouldout having to worry about visas. Not to mention it is easier and cheaper to stay closer to home.
It also depends on what you want to do, and where your heart is. Think about your goals and what you want to do. Sit down, make a plan and write a budget. That is a good start. Go from there.

I suggest that you travel to a place with a culture that you're unfamiliar with, i.e. NOT Canada, US, New Zealand or Australia.
Asia is truly as exotic as the media makes it out to be.
Go to India if you are looking for a cheap, mysterious country where many speak English.
Go to S.E Asia is you have a bit more money and the time to really explore Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and then take 2-3 days off the culture shock by hanging around in Singapore.
East Asia is a bit harder to travel around if you do not speak Chinese or Japanese or Korean (depending on where you're going). But the Japanese and the Koreans generally are extremely helpful while most Chinese are, but due to their cultural differences, you may be shocked when the train ticket seller throws the change back at you instead of leaving it on the counter or putting it in your hand.
I'm currently living in Colombia, and would definitely also recommend South America. But safety can be an issue here. I was mugged in Bolivia by an organised group. The culture isn't too exotic to me, as most of people in this continent are Catholics and speak Spanish (except Brazil where they speak Portugese).
Bhutan is another exotic place that I love, but it's the most expensive of them all. It costs USD200 a day, and you have to go there as a tour group. It can be a group of 1 though. Everything, however, will be provided and you have to only fork out some money for gifts for your family and friends, on top of the USD200.
Well, I guess my recommendations are SE Asia (the above-named countries) or South Asia (India, Nepal - check for Maoist situation, Bhutan, Sri Lanka...) as they are safe and easy to get around, esp. for a first-time traveller.

I've just come back from West Africa, overland from Ghana to Morocco. Fantastic trip, lovely people, great cultures, beautiful landscapes.
It's constant mild culture shock, you're never entirely sure what's going on. But the people are generaly friendly and helpful. English is fairly widely spoken, but if you've got a bit of French as well you can chat to everybody.
If you haven't got long I'd recommend Marakesh, it's a very cool city.

Dubai would be a nice place to go to, in the United Arab Emirates. They have just opened Emirates Shopping Mall there and its the biggest in the middle east.
If you can spend money stay at Burj Al Arab which is so class, if not you can stay in Hilton which isnt very expensive. The people are nice and if you would like to have a sun tan then definatly go there

The Outer hebrides in Scotland. wild beautiful, untamed contrasting countryside with massive deserted white sand beachs and as it's in the gulf stream the sea is wonderfully warm. The people are very welcoming too.
