Sure you think your beliefs are true, so obviously hinduism and buddism seems a lie from your perspective.

So in order to be a christian and accept the beliefs being true, how do you counter the beliefs of others?

Sure you cannot accept both beliefs as true since you won't be christian then and both beliefs are totally different so they are too contradictory to be true...

I think most Christians do their religion a disservice when they attempt to argue for christianity. Usually they end up arguing against known science such as evolution, geology or astronomy or in favor of immoral actions such as eternal torture, mass extermination of millions of people etc. This only results in the non-believer thinking that Christians are a bunch of brainwashed fools. Christians would be better off if they tried to set a good example, rather than lived a life of bad behaviour and then hypocritically condemn others, which unfortunately the vast majority of christians seem to do.

The source of that perceived attitude comes from the Bible. It is not that Christians think they are better or smarter or anything else. If you are a "real Christian" then you believe the Bible is the final word of God. If it is-then everyone else is not only wrong-they are also going to hell. No Christian wants anyone to go to hell. If the Bible is wrong then there is no God, and all of this is just silly. You have to figure out how and where you want to fit into this.

What do you mean by "counter"? Do you mean scriptural references or recruitment or what?

Yes, buddhism is a lie from biblical perspective. It doesn't mean I'm going to start an argument with everyone who's not a Christian.
One aspect of witnessing to people that many Christians misunderstand is how the listener receives you.
Jesus didn't bother with people who didn't want to listen and didn't waste His breath on them. He commanded the disciples to do the same.
Mark 6:11
And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

If I try to witness to someone who doesn't care to listen, then I'm going to shake the dust off my feet and move on. I don't try to counter them.

Christians don't have to "counter other world views". To try to do so, is a waste of time.

All Christians need to do is to try live up to our own world views (and that ain't easy) and let "other world views" take care of themselves. If we are living in the LIGHT, then we will attract others to ourselves, it's just that simple.

Yeah I find it rather annoying.

Muslims usually let you go with a " You 'll burn in hell with satan" routine.

Christians try to convert you, as if they were themeselves mini-Christs themselves, sent by God himself to convert those who Jesus missed. And cruelly banish all kind and nice and wellmeaning non-christians from heaven, as if they were the God himself.

but I fend them off by saying, If God wanted me to be Christian, I would have been Christian. God is secular and pluralistic in that sense.

Like If God of any religion is going to burn me up for eternity simply cos I m not a particular religion, that reminds me of Hitler, who sent everyone but Aryans to concentration camps. Especially Jews. And I don't like Hitler.

Compare these so called Gods to Krishna, Who says that No matter who you believe in, even if you don't believe in me, as long as you are truthful, righteous and compasssionate, doors of the heaven will be opened for you.

There are thousands of species on earth. Like why are all flowers not roses? Rose is such a beautiful flower? And why have thousands of species of butterflies? Why did God not create just one specie, if all he intended was for butterflies to spread pollen?Likewise there are many religions.

God is not of any particular religion or sect. He/she believesin diversity..

The best you can hope for is to constantly study God's word, and to make friends with others and teach them about God's KINGDOM as Jesus taught us to do.
