There are significant turning points in the history of mankind. We are now living in one of them. Some call it globalization and some say that this is the genesis of the “information age.” These are true, but there is yet a more important concept than these. Although some are unaware of it, great advances have been made in science and philosophy in the last 20-25 years. Atheism, which has held sway over the world of science and philosophy since the 19th century is now collapsing in an inevitable way. In his book, God: The Evidence, The Reconciliation of Faith and Reason in a Postsecular World, the American scholar Patrick Glynn from the George Washington University writes:
The past two decades of research have overturned nearly all the important assumptions and predictions of an earlier generation of modern secular and atheist thinkers relating to the issue of God. Modern thinkers assumed that science would reveal the universe to be ever more random and mechanical; instead it has discovered unexpected new layers of intricate order that bespeak an almost unimaginably vast master design. Modern psychologists predicted that religion would be exposed as a neurosis and outgrown; instead, religious commitment has been shown empirically to be a vital component of basic mental health…
Few people seem to realize this, but by now it should be clear: Over the course of a century in the great debate between science and faith, the tables have completely turned. In the wake of Darwin, atheists and agnostics like Huxley and Russell could point to what appeared to be a solid body of testable theory purportedly showing life to be accidental and the universe radically contingent. Many scientists and intellectuals continue to cleave to this worldview. But they are increasingly pressed to almost absurd lengths to defend it. Today the concrete data point strongly in the direction of the God hypothesis.

I’m not saying that I am an atheist, but why would I want to ‘spread the word’ as you put it. I’m trying to spare you the religious condescension and castigation of the obviously religious respondents but to ‘spread the word’ is generally a term or phrase used by Christians and religious secularists as a sort of calling and retelling of Holy stories and miracles performed by their religious entity (be it Jesus, Mohammad, Buddha, etc). What holy beings are there in the world of Atheism? Jean Paul Sartre? And what miracles have there been performed? Sartre suffered from chronic depression, not a very good selling point. Nietzsche (also considered by some to being close to atheist) believed in some form of eventual reoccurrence of being called ‘the thought of eternal return’. Even Jim Morrison (the man who you coined your name from) believed in the existence of a soul. So again I would ask you, why would I want to spread the word.

An 'evangelical athiest'? Surely that's a contradiction in terms like carnivorous vegetarian.

Surely we're all entitled to beleive whatever we want, as long as it dosen't do anyone else harm. As far as I'm concerned it's a case of whatever gets you through the night. The world's a hard place, if religion makes it easier to cope then good luck to you.
I only have a problem with people who think their beliefs should run my life. They can do their thing, just leave me to do mine. Most religious people I've met are perfectly fine people, and I find we often agree on a lot of things, ethics and values are similar, it's just the rationale behind them which is different.

In response to Jordan, athiests believe in lots of things, it's just that they don't believe in God(s). I have a belief system which informs how I live my life, it's just not the same as yours.

If the answer above is an original work then I am Muhammed.

You don't have to spread the word about disbelief - it is natural as sorrow. So put your feet up and watch the world cup. There is a god - he is Wayne Rooney.

you're properly suited in asking an Atheist as we are in a position to grant an impartial opinion whilst it includes religions. Mankind will on no account "unite" below a single perception. we are yet one step out of the caves and so are nonetheless very tribal in nature. we've this might desire to have faith that our team (tribe) is greater useful than that tribe around the corner. That we are specific or chosen in some way or closer to "our" god then they are. Atheism is purely the dis perception in gods. It eliminates this might desire to sense specific via non secular potential. It places mankind as equals. even although the religions declare they carry forth and prepare equality they nonetheless have their biases and bigotries. think of roughly it!

It would be wrong for us to copy Evangelists and so make the same mistakes they do. But we should be more outspoken and willing to stand up and be counted in the battle for sanity.
