One best? Not needed. Just ask something a lot of people are interested in, and better, yet, have differing opinions on.
Such as, on the computer forum:
"Which is better, Linux or Windows"
Books:
"Which is better: "Science fiction or Fantasy, and why?"
Home cleaning forum:
"Which is better: Bleach or Ammonia, and why not use both? Just mix them!" (No, it will kill you, don't do it. Seriously).
But you get the idea.
If you want multitudes of answers, ask a question that has two sides to it. Your answers will stink, but you will get a lot of them.

How about this, I am thinking of a number between 1 and x (x=a number eg 50, 100 etc.) what is it? - then say the first one to guess is correct will get the ten points - would imagine that may generate a alot of different (but similar in format) answers :)

I would say anything contreversial........ religion or politics are always good ones
Or of course there is the absolute question... Why are we here? What is the meaning of life? etc.
I love questions where I have to think of an answer... something witty, clever or poetic. It gives my brain a good work out!!

Well when i asked the question "What drives you to become a better person?" i got almost 50 varius answers in the space of fifteen-20 minutes.
