I grew up in Queens, the Shea Stadium neighborhood. So I often got a chance to see Pete Rose play in the late 60s, early 70s. Never saw a ballplayer who hustled with such intensity as Pete Rose. On a routine ground ball, he would sprint with all of his heart to first base. If he thought the play would be close, he would dive head first to try to beat the throw. He was a geniune ballplayer, all heart, and a gifted batting eye. That's why he holds the record for most career hits, breaking Ty Cobb's record. Needless to say, he belongs in the hall of fame. And he's probably better than 75 percent of the inductees.

All I have to say about that is the steroid issue now permeating baseball is a greater crime than Pete Rose betting on baseball games not involving his team. Bart Giamonti, baseball commissioner who banned Rose, was too full of himself. No where near as great as Rose was to baseball. Let him in and we should all beg for his forgiveness.

No. He gambled, got caught, lied about it, then finally told the truth to sell books. Rose is a scumbag and should never be allowed into the hall.

Just to be clear, as a player he deserves to be in the HOF, but he was selfish even then. He continued to play for several years when he was hurting his team. He was the worse 1B in baseballl for his last five seasons. He stayed so he would break Ty Cobb's record.

Imagine how hated Barry Bonds would be if he played for five more years, while hurting his team, in order to pass Hank Aaron. That is the same thing Rose did.

Rose is an embarassment to baseball. He should crawl back under the rock he came from.

If liars like Bonds, and McGuire can get into the hall of fame for steroids , why not Pete Rose. He admitted he beat on baseball games just not his own.

This mans nick name was Charlie Hustle and he earned it too

Let the dude in

There is no doubt about it,Rose should already be in! I got to see him play numerous times at the Vet. I agree with what macarthur1977 says. Rose should be judged on what he did ON THE FIELD,not off!

If players, er, juicers like McGwire, Palmiero, Bonds make it, then most certainly yes, he should be allowed. I am eternally grateful to Charlie Hustle for helping to bring a championship title to Philly in 1980.

YES, Charlie Hustle belongs in the Hall! There are people who have done worse things with less talent who are immortalized.

NO!!!

He is banned from baseball FOR LIFE; and for a darn good reason.

He even signed a release form stating his guilt.

He shouldn't even be allowed in as a paying customer!
