there is what is called a "euphoria curve". when alcohol is taken the pleasant feeling it starts to induce overcomes the negative aspects such as taste. the happier some people get. also it tends to numb pain.. the addiction starts as a need to escape everyday crap. as the body gets more tolerant of the alcohol, more alcohol is needed to establish the euphoria until the amounts of gets much larger. the body then starts to specialize in metabolizing alcohol only and physical addiction is the result

Alcohol is a legal drug once a person starts on it they need it there to complete them it gives them what they think they are missing when they could actually find better things if they could have had a better chance if they didn't start drinking in the first place.

It's and addiction. It's not love. They become mentally and chemically dependent on the buzz/euphoria alchohol produces. Eventually they need more or harder alchohol because the "pain" gets harder to mask without drinking more. It is habit forming.

Some people are more prone to it because they have addiction issues. They can't do things in moderation. Like me, I can't eat fries w/o eating the whole plate full--so I don't eat fries anymore.

Most alchoholics, when they stop, need to go off the stuff the same way. Give it all up. They can't go from dependence to social. It doesn't work for them.

They don't love the taste to begin with, but it's addictive.
I guess people first try it to look mature and go along with the crowd. Then, some people can't handle it after a while, have a hard time controlling urge to drink.

Thank God that we are not alcholics and it won't interfere with our health and life goals. ...I think alcoholics have a receptor on their cells that causes them to become addicted more easily than other people.
