Im sure i'll upset people with this question. I love America and have been many many times.

Los of flags though. Why would you need a flag outside your house? just in case you forget where you live?

I have many friends over there. Some hate the flag and the constant blab of "freedom /being brave" and all that

But i have met some that tell me its the greatest place in the universe.

I just find it funny sometimes. I went to a county fair and one group of ppl they had american flag deck chiars, bunting, t-shirts and of course 2 flags flying..........

Nauseating!!!!!

The answer is simple....no one is actually from America since it's a new country (200+ years old etc). Most people are migrants from previous generations and so feel patriotic to the country that gave their forefathers opportunity.

I'm not American , I also know many Americans , I have never known any American that is 'unpatriotic', they differ in political outlook , but very very few are are unpatriotic' I think (for what it's worth) that they have every right to be patriotic!
They are on the whole very cosmopolitan people that are gradually learning to live together.
I doubt very much that they will ever lean towards the British ( or should I say English ) idea of the the BNP fascism, and their little new found red and white flag!!

I know what you mean about some Americans but, hey, pride in ones country and in ones self as an American citizen is better than the lack of respect that many people in the UK show towards their country and themselves.

The only time we see our Union or English flag is when there is some major sporting event on - and most people don't seem to know which is the right way up to fly the Union Flag.

Ahh yes, patriotism... it really is the latest fashionably popular social ill.

Patriotism is to the weak-minded what alcohol is to the weak-willed.

It has to do with toddlers eating paint chips that had a high lead content in them. It retards their mental and emotional growth leading them to become red-necks or conservatives.
