If I had (a) a car and a license, and (b) a moderate amount of money to invest, I would go to estate sales and buy up whatever collectibles could be had cheap. Then go home and research them and either sell them on eBay or, if there was money enough, open a shop.

It's a field where information is the key to winning, and that's the way I think commerce should be in the Information Age. A good eye for quality design, construction and condition, and the ability to research the details is most of what you need. Collectors in all sorts of fields, especially beginners, rely heavily on the expertise of those from whom they buy. That knowledge is effectively value added, especially if you include a couple of paragraphs printed on your computer telling the buyer what you have found out.
