Either they sent you a wrong model or sometimes when you by memory devices, it shows 512mb on the box but the actual memory is only about 400mb.

Try upgrading to Windows XP SP2. There is a limit in existing OS which shows only 137GB limit. Check the article from Intel website at:

you have to install windows xp with SP2 , then only you can see full 160 gb

because the firms calculate 1000MB - 1GB and OS calculate 1024MB - 1GB plus minus the space taken by the OS and other hardware feature that have installed drivers in your hard drive i meam factory setting.
