Once upon a time or A long time ago is so cliche, but still, I love them. Hehee.

"When [character's name here] woke up that morning, he/she never imagined that by the end of the day, he/she would end up [dead / with his/her head in a toilet / being dangled by the ankle 55 stories over 42nd Street by one of Charlie's "friends" / bound to a large primate with furry handcuffs]."

Or, simply, "It was love at first sight." (Although it was used to good effect in *Catch-22.*)
