It really depends on the doctor and the health of the baby. There could be a miscalculation of the due date. If the doctor has performed a test called a biophysical profile (an ultrasound that checks certain aspects of the fetus) and the baby is doing well, s/he may let nature continue on its course. Most doctors will induce within 2 weeks of a due date because after 40 weeks of pregnancy, the environment in the womb begins to deteriorate and the baby doesn't get all the nutrients it requires. If I were you, I would ask the doctor if there is a difference in the due date calculated by the last menstrual period and an ultrasound. If there is find out the corrected due date.

I was going to answer 2 weeks...but it looks like you know that.
The only reason your doc would induce earlier is if they were concerned for you or the baby. In some instances, if they think that they baby could still be healthy and developing past the 2 weeks past due mark, they may still wait. They can never be exact unless you only had sex once in your life and that led to your conception.
If this is your first, enjoy having dinner out and seeing a movie, while you can. You are about to spend the next few months being busy and tired.

It depends on the Dr. But if I were you I would definitely get a second opinion. My friend went 4 weeks overdue and her baby was almost 12 pounds.
I was late with all 4 of my kids. My first Dr. was going to induce if I didn't go within 7 days of my due date, the 2nd Dr. said within 10 days(baby 2&3), the 3rd Dr still wasn't too concerned when I hadn't gone into labor at 14 days late with my 4th.
If I were you, I would call and talk to another Dr. or even go to the hospital on your own and go to L&D and ask their advice.
Good Luck!

WOW , If i were you I would get a second opinion. Thats almost a month over due he should have induced by now. The longer you wait the higher the risk of something going wrong with the baby

My son was due April 14 of last year. When it came and went, they moved it back to his original due date of April 28. They waited almost 2 weeks to induce me, my son was born 10 May. After he was born, it was quite obvious to all the doctors and nurses that the 14 April date was the accurate one. I'm pregnant again and at the same hospital and they changed their policy to inducing before you are a week overdue. Talk to you hospital to find out their policy.

in the UK they don't let you go more than 10 days now I beleive due to the older the placenta gets, it starts to fail and not supply your baby with as much nutrients as it should be getting. See your doctor sooner rather than later and ask for an induction. Have they given you a date? Are you still feeling at least 10 seperate movements day day from your baby?
At the stage you are at, induction wouldn't be for sociable reasons, but for medical reasons. Speak to your consultant and ask about an induction. Best of luck

It depends where you live and the Dr that is looking after you. Dr told me no more than ten days, but another Dr told a friend no more than 5 days...
Hope the baby is here and everything is fine
