1. the wavelength of light is 589 nm (nano metre). wat is its orde of magnitude in metre???????( 1 nano mtre = 10 to the power of minus 1. ) i need the working and can u pleae explain too. i`ll be really thankful!

2. the radius of a hydrogen atom is 0.5 angstrom. find the order of magnitude of volume of (a) one hydrogen atom, (b) 1 mole hydrogen. given that 1 mole of hydrogen has 6.02 multipled 10 power of 23 hydrogen atoms.
(hint- volume = 4/3 pie r cube (r is the radius))

i need to know how to do it with working!!!

1. 598 nm = 589*10^-9 m = 5.89*10^-7 m. ( using the conversion 1 nm = 10^-9 m)

2. radius of hydrogen atom (r) = .5 angstrom = 5*10^-11 m (using the conversion 1 angstrom = 10^-10 m).
Volume of one hydrogen atom = (4/3)*(pi)(r^3)
= (4/3)*(3.1416)(5*10^-11m)^3
= 5.24*10^-31 m^3
Volume of 1 mole of hydrogn atoms (simply muliply volume of one hydrogen atom by 6.02*10^23):
(5.24*10^-31 m^3)*(6.02*10^23) = 3.15*10^-7 m^3

first of all a nanometer is not 10^-1 but 10^-9 meter ok?
then for the answers
1) in meter it should be 589 * 10 ^ -9 meter
there is nothing to explain in this except for that you should be knowing or learning these basics in physics.
read your text book once. u'll surely get it.
2) radius is 0.5 + 10 ^ -10. a) one H atom's volume would be (4/3)pi r ^ 3
where pi = 22/7 or 3.14
so it becomes = (4/3)(22/7)(0.5 *10 ^ -10) ^ 3
= 0.5238 * 10 ^ -13 meter cube or cubic meter ( dear friend i think u understood how i got it,i think u are smart enough to solve it by urself.right!)

b) yes i too know that 1 mole always equals to the avogadro no. which is 6.023 * 10 ^ 23.
therefore the volume of these many atoms present in 1 mole of H is
0.5238 * 10 ^ -13 * 6.023 * 10 ^ 23
= 3.154 * 10 ^ 10 meter cube or cubic meter

1. Since 589 nm = 589*10^(-9) m = 5.89*10^(-7) m, so the order of magnitude of wavelength is (-7) in meters.
2.(a) 0.5A = 5*10(-11) m, so hydrogen atom's volume in cubic meters would be:
4/3*pi*5^3*10^(-33) ~ 524*10^(-33) = 5.24*10^(-31)
so the order of magnitude for hydrogen atom's volume is (-31).
2.(b) One mole of every complete gas, in natural condition, has a volume equal to 22.4 Lit, independent of what gas is of concern. Since 22.4 Lit = 2.24*10^(-5) CUBIC METERS, therefore the order of magnitude in cubic meters would be (-5).

1 nano mtre=10 to the power of minus 9(NOT 1 that you have written)
589nm=589*10 to the power of minus 9
