Anywhere from $300 a month to easily $4000.00 a month depending where you want to live.

Certainly depends on the city and the part of that city you wish to live. I can only speak from my experience in Peoria, IL: a 2 bedroom apartment in an apartment complex in a decent part of this city will run anywhere from $435 to $600 per month. Slightly additional for garage space; a 2 bedroom duplex with attached 1 car garage space will be from $635 to $850 per month. BTW, all kinds of excellent job opportunities here in the health care field. The 3 major hospitals and their "off-shoots" are paying top dollar and benefits for qualified nurses. Just thought you might be interested.

In Jacksonville, Florida basic price in a decent part of town is $900 to $1200. But if you head for the beach, say Ponte Vedra you could add anywhere from 3-4 hundred dollars , and possible more depending on furnished or unfurnished. Plus length of lease can make a big difference.
In Collierville, Tennessee I rented a brand new apartment of that size for one thousand dollars and was right on the lake and my front walk was connected to the pool area. Best apartment I ever lived in. Suggest you check out apartments.com. or maybe it was rentapartment.com.
Wish you luck. J.

I don't really think there is an average, because it's so different depending on what state or area you live in. Or if there is an average it doesn't really matter too much.
I know in Tennesee it's easy to find one for around $700, even less then that in smaller towns.
However in Orange County, CA (where I live) you will not find one for less then $1000.

New York and California probably the most expensive. You can do better when you're not on either coast of the US (midwest, southwest, northwest - just not on the coasts).

I imagine a unit in Manhatten would be significantly more expensive than a shack in country Utah.

I agree with the first two answerers. Example, here in LA, it'll run you about $1000/month.
