The mission of the ACLU is to preserve all of these protections and guarantees:

Your First Amendment rights-freedom of speech, association and assembly. Freedom of the press, and freedom of religion supported by the strict separation of church and state.

Your right to equal protection under the law - equal treatment regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin.

Your right to due process - fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake.

Your right to privacy - freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs.
We work also to extend rights to segments of our population that have traditionally been denied their rights, including Native Americans and other people of color; lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered people; women; mental-health patients; prisoners; people with disabilities; and the poor.

If one group of people's rights are denied then all people are in danger.

You answered your own question. I agree!

It is only those who DON'T want you to have access to the courts that scream, but they want it!

Your rights are agreed. That's not the problem. The problem is that the ACLU does things for publicity and not for the best of protecting civil liberties. The problem is that the ACLU compromises its civil liberties cases for the publicity of doing some cases that are really questionable.

One is that they represented the NeoNazi's in Skokie, IL in 1977. Freedom of speech and freedom of religion, those are givens. But something is wrong with this picture.

Then, they didn't represent the people of Wenatchee, Washington when that happened. And they cave when it comes to issues like forced school drug testing of athletes, strip searching and search and seizure of children. They are really awful and a failure on that issue.

They are actually a great organization. But they tend to do what is politically correct and gets them publicity a whole lot more than they do the right thing to preserve civil liberties for all of us.

quite frankly...they're not.
i believe that their original intent was good, but has since been corrupted by far left liberals who take on positions opposite of traditional thought for the sake of being opposite rather than being correct. For example, the ACLU would prefer to honor the rights of a sexual predator who has been tried and convicted and completely disregard the victim in the name of "the accused had a bad childhood so therefore he deserves a pass and some therapy and that's all the punishment they deserve" In the meantime, they forget about the rights of the victim because they happen to be a child. They will stand up for "the New Black Panthers" and protect their free speech although they recite racist points of view. But they are hypocritical when it comes to the Minutemen who also are exercising their 1st amendment rights but are quick to call them down just because they hold an opposite point of view.

So in reality they don't protect the rights of all Americans, but just the ones who agree with their political views. They don't stand for true justice, only justice that is in pursuit of their vision of America.

If I'm wrong here, please give me an example.

Powerful and greatness are two different things. The current ACLU is based on power and not greatness. Their agenda today is to secular for me. They are bent on protecting the guilty from the innocent more than they should. They are as corrupt as many other large biased groups. When is the last time they have protected a Christians right to pray ?

I agree with them on some issues, and disagree on others, just like every other politically based group. They chose to pick some rights as more important than others, though, and that's why I don't like them. All of my rights are equally important.

The A.C.L.U. seems to achieve the exact opposite of their stated intentions in the eyes of many...
and we could always replay the FOX editorials for those who missed them... I don't recall them having to recind any part of them.
