your hymen can break not only from intercourse, but from a fall or an accident, like riding a boys bike and falling and hitting your goin on the bar.(been there, done that, & oooouch!) anyway the only way to know for sure is from some minor bleeding(not like a period) that is short in duration or through a gynological exam. if the later is done, tell them you are a virgin and they will take precautions so as not to tear the hymen if it is still intact.

The hymen can get broken in a variety of ways other than having sex, for example using a tampon or by vigorous exercise.
Everyone is different and the hymen varies from almost completely covering the vagina to being barely present. The apparent absence of it doesn't mean that someone is not a virgin.
This site has some 'explicit' photos but I believe it is a good and responsible site which will tell you a lot that you need to know (and possibly more than most mothers would be able to tell their daughters).

I don't know how old you are, but you are obviously old enough to ask intelligent questions and you deserve intelligent and balanced answers. If I had daughters who had no mother I would certainly want them to know and would try to learn with them. If you have someone older/more experienced with whom you feel you can discuss things frankly, do use them. Once you get over any initial embarrasment, it's really just information you are sharing.

As to the other girl who said " it breaks during sex" the hymen can also be broken from riding a bike aswell. So There is no way you can know if itr is broken except for going to the doctor.

Hymen breaks not only when you have sex for the first time.. It might not break for the first time sex too...
It even breaks when girls do Atheletic sports like Running.. Long Jump.. cycling.. like that..
When Hymen breaks, bleeding is seen for a short time...

It will bleed. It can happen once you have had sex, falling on a bikebar, or, if not inserted properly a tampon can tear the hymen.

the hymen can get broken in different ways, NOT jus because of sex either. it can happen sometimes from riding horses or other strong contact sports. it can even happen fron inserting your fingers or even a tampon in. Jus because it's broke doesn't mean you've had sex
