I'm not sure if you asked this question for laughs--a pun or play on words, or for a serious reason. "The world is getting smaller" is an idiomatic expression. You can't take it literally, like the globe has shrunk. It simply means that life has become easier than before because of technological advancement, especially in transportation and communications.

On the other hand, the increase in price of stamps has nothing to do with "the world shrinking". Distance from one place to another doesn't change--it is the mode of transportation that changes and improves over time. In the meantime, oil price increases which triggers an increase of prices of other commodities.

The world isn't getting smaller, as the world is slowing down its spin (every day gets 1/100000000000000000000 second longer”nice to know if you feel like you day is to short, that the day tomorrow is a little longer”) is the world adding pressure to the core making the gravitation area change and the EM field stronger, and this makes the shape of the world look more like a ellipsis then a circle making the surface area of the world bigger and yes like mvp18ro says tons of cosmic debree are captured every day into Earth's atmosphere adding to it!
and if the world is getting bigger why shoudent postage be going up?

Love your question! It´s smaller because of the Internet and all other 'speedy' forms of communication, leaving the poor old post office with nothing to deliver but bills, and junk mail (which are also rapidly being integrated into the NET...), thus, they must raise the price. I feel for the postal workers,(truly) and the poor doggies who can´t bite the heels of the postman. Oh, how things change. Do you suppose stamp collecting is getting more popular and financially 'rewarding´. Worth checking, don´t you think?

because of one thing: economics.
the prices of oil has gone up. and this is what makes your posts go where they should be.
also, the number of people using the service is getting smaller considering email and stuff. so, the advantage of economies of scale is not so much anymore.
