Say that to Tupac and see what happens. Thugs aren't stupid even though I'm not one.

You should clarify if you are referring to the hip-hop trend. I think you are so, just think about it, these guys are not being stupid thugs, they are being smart businessmen. They are tapping into a long ignored market and giving hope to the child that grows up without much more than a dream. Sure, they could use more manners but who lives spotless life? In fact, I run into more rude, obnoxious, disoderly people at Wal-Mart than I do anywhere else and those people aren't considered thugs. Why, I have been ignored, belittled, frowned upon, and judged by more people who supposedly have "class." And another thing, decency is truly objective. Something that is acceptable in my family may not be acceptable in yours and vice-versa. While we do all accept the universal rule to consider other people's feelings and blah, blah, it is human nature to take care of self first. So you tell me, why is it cool for YOU to be judgemental?

I know where you're coming from with this question, but it is a bit late. The thug culture made a huge surge at the turn of the '90s, and never looked back. Thug culture is a rebellion against convention, but the irony is that everyone is doing it, so no one is really unique. Right? LOL I try to tell this to the youngsters I know, and they agree, but they don't change...

Now that women have entered the work force and birth control has made pre-marital sex socially acceptable, women require different things from their men. Women no longer need to find a good provider so men no longer bother to be gainfully employed. Since education is primarily a means to ready oneself for gainful employment, men are becoming more stupid. It's Darwinism at work.

There are only two ways to stop this trend: send women back to the kitchens, or force men to take responsibility for their actions instead of simply reacting to female behavior.

Sheesh, you'd think the apple and snake incident would have taught men something by now.

Have you noticed that some societies who are poor or are somewhat oppressed have very sweet people and young people? Like the Phillipines, or parts of Africa. I think when you have freedom, such as we do here ....there is a freedom to choose good or bad. Because many virtuous things are being systematically removed from our society like prayer from schools in the 60's and then abortion made legal in the early 70's....there has been a slow and steady shift in people, especially young people to choose bad over good, materialism over spirituality. It is the midst of the decline of our society. We still have many young people who choose sacrifice, giving of themselves for others., but how long before the percentages of selfish, evil doing me-only types overtake the good? That is what worries me. That is when much of the world despising us becomes justified.

We told our kids that Mrs Cleaver didn't exist but Snoop Dog did. Our pop icons glorified ghetto culture on TV and told us that we had every right to do whatever we want without considering other people.
Most of the young men and boys in my neighborhood look like recently released convicts or Mexican Mafia. They are surly and impolite.

Most thugs are posers espeacially the teenagers, of course there are the exceptions. Those true thugs however are nothing speacial, many are drug addicts and individuals suffering from psychological illnesses.

Apparently so...the "bad boy" image is what girls lust after therefor the guys want to portray that "bad boy" or "thug" image so to get the girls to want them. As for me, I like my boyfriend just the way he is, far from a thug and very respectable and sweet(still with a hint of bad boy, hehe).

I think so, I totally agree with you, there is no such thing as tactfulness anymore.

For those who need to know:

tact ( P ) Pronunciation Key (tkt)
n.
Acute sensitivity to what is proper and appropriate in dealing with others, including the ability to speak or act without offending.
Archaic. The sense of touch.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[French, from Old French, sense of touch, from Latin tctus, from past participle of tangere, to touch. See tag- in Indo-European Roots.]
Synonyms: tact, address, diplomacy, savoir-faire
These nouns denote the ability to deal with others with skill, sensitivity, and finesse. Tact implies propriety and the ability to speak or act unoffensively: “He had... a tact that would preserve him from flagrant error in any society” (Francis Parkman). Address suggests deftness and grace in social situations: “With the charms of beauty she combined the address of an accomplished intriguer” (Charles Merivale). Diplomacy implies adroit management of difficult situations: Diffusing the confrontation required delicate diplomacy. Savoir-faire involves knowing the right or graceful thing to say or do: The hosts set the shy visitor at ease with their savoir-faire.
