its normal but not essential. i was in pre labour for a week, my doctors told me i wasnt in labout cuz my cerviz was still closed and there was no way labour was starting in the next week, then they examined me the next morning and i was 3 cm dialated. yes you can check your own dialation if you can reach far enough up there, with a closed cervix there is no hole with a dialated cervix there will be an opening and you will be able to feel your bag of waters. be carefull thogh and always be hygenic!

It's completely normal for women to go into labor before or after the due date(within a week or two). If I were you, I would just keep track of contractions, because those are when you dialate. If they seem to be getting worse, go to your doctor and see how dialated you are.

Every pregnancy is different. At 38 weeks, you could be 3 cm dilated, or at 41 weeks, you could be closed up tighter than Fort Knox. It all depends on the number of contractions you have (Contractions are responsible for dilating your cervix.). You could check to see if you're dilated by using your index finger to check (just like your OB would) but I wouldn't recommend it. If your water has broken and you aren't aware of it, and your hands aren't very clean, you could risk infection to yourself or your baby.

39 weeks is term
so to answer your question: no.
you still have a week left.
NO, never check yourself! You could rupture something accidentally and hemorrhage.
Yes it is normal to deliver a week or two early, but you do Not want to induce. It is better if it just happens naturally.
Have patience, it will happen when it happens.

one thing to be cautious of, playing around with your cervix can cause contractions...so be careful if you are before 36 weeks.
Normal to not be dilated. Usually you will start right on due date.
