Today someone wrongly informed the police that I was going to commit suicide. Strange yes, and also very very embarassing. Unfortunately w/o warning two police officers came to my house to check everything out. They realized I was fine and then left. I know that every time something like this happens there is a report filed no matter what. Unfortunetly I am very recognizable in my community and I am told this record will become availible to the public for a fee on monday. I am extrememly humilitated to find that someone is planning on purchasing this police report first thing on monday. I am very upset since this incident was all cleared up otherwise. Is there any legal way I can make this information confidential to protect my reputation? I am sick to think someone would do this to me in the first place, and knowing people can purchase this, even for there own viewing is really troubling me. Please help if you have an answer. I live in WI if this helps with any law info. Thanks

Just to clarify, don't worry I had no intention to harm myself in anyway and I was very confused when the police came to my door and asked if I was alright. I would possibly like to view this report to see who made the call...but I do not want others to see it....I don't want rumors flying around or anything worse to happen because of this.

I very much doubt the police would make available to the public records of a negative/positive nature. It's against the law.You did nothing wrong. Someone misinformed(probably anonimously) them of a false situation. They investigated, satisfied, end of story

First off, is there any basis of truth whatsoever that would cause someone concern that you were ready to end your life? if thats the case, please, talk to a pastor in a church that is of your religion. that way, the counseling is free. if this is not the case, then my apologies are sincere. This person whoever it is that wants to purchase a public record of this incident obviously is ....
A..... has no life, and needs a hobby
B...... has some reason to be hostile and want to be incredibly mean to you
C. is just plain evil
most likely, all of the above. I can understand (to an extent) a reasonable cause for concern and letting authorities know if someone intends to harm themselves, but it is downright vicious to want to humiliate someone especially if it was a misunderstanding. This is by all means a form of harrasment, which is illegal in most states. If this particular person seeks to do these wicked things, require a restraining order. turn the authoritic tables around. And as for what everyone else thinks, your friends and co-workers problably know you well enough that these things have no substance and if you know it isnt true, show them you are not bothered by all this foolishness.. state in a calm tone and a straight face that you have been very angered that someone would do this and tell them it is not something you want to discuss until you have cooled down.

Sorry, in terms of keeping it confidential you will need to hire a lawyer to see if it can be done in WI. In most states, police reports are public record.
However, that public record would also include the fact that law enforcement did NOT feel that the report was true.
(It might also include the name of the individual making the report which will help you determine if it was a friend who misunderstood something or an a**hole who you then need to have that lawyer (mentioned above) SUE.
Best of luck!
