What should I do to work toward a career in psychology?

I am a junior in high school. and I believe that a career in psychology is for me.

I NEED ADVICE. NO SARCASM!!!!!!

In the US, the only jobs in psychology require either a Master's degree or Doctorate.

A master's degree will let you be a Social Worker, which is very hard work for low pay.

A Ph.D. will let you be a Psychologist. Big money, if you're good.

A bachelor's degree in Psych is like underwater basket-weaving. Don't even bother if you're not pursuing an advanced degree.

Good for you! I'm 28 and am just now deciding on a psychology career! You are on the right path and that's great!! Just simply enroll in the college of your choice and choose Psychology as your major. I am aiming for a career in substance abuse psychology. Good luck to you! I am sure you'll be very sucessful! My best friend is actually graduating next year with a Bachlors in psycology. There's not much you can do to prepare, except teach yourself things. She works as a server at a restarant right now because she can't find a job in the psyc. field for students.

Start reading books on abnormal psychology.
Go to a collage bookstore and get some textbooks from collage psychology classes they teach there.

Read them and see if they are really interesting to you.

take psychology in college.then u can do masters in it.later do a course in counseling and u can meet a good psychiatrist in town and ask him to keep u as an assistant.u dont get paid but u learn a lot..........slowly u are ready to start on ur own.........
