I'm on Alesse and I noticed that ever since I was on it my sex drive has significantly decreased. Is anyone having this problem? I'm thinking of switching to Ortho-Tri Cyclen Lo because it doesn't deliver the same amount of hormones each day like Alesse, anyone on that?

Any suggestions on reversing this affect? I've heard of switching pills before but don't know if that would work.

Yeah it can for some woman, it can also increase the sex drive of some woman. I guess it just all depends on the person and how your body reacts to it.

I'm on "the shot" and my sex drive decreased. This also could be because I just gave birth. But you kind of answered your question. The hormones in birth control CAN decrease (or increase for that matter) your sex drive. Some birth control can also make you have feelings of depression and gain weight. Just talk over the options with your doctor to determine the best course of action. Your doctor might have a better option then OrthoLo, but you're on the right track. :)

Yes it is normal for birth control pills to reduce your sex drive. While it may not occur to all womean it can. Recently on cnn there was a report on birth control effecting your sex drive long term, meaning that even though you get off of the pills your sex drive could possibly not come back (this is just a possibilitie like all the other risks of taking the pill). So it is up to you to weigh the consequences. Talk to your doctor about this side-effect so that the appropriate pill may be found for you.

Birth control pills work by suppressing the production of hormones in the ovaries. Some of these hormones have testosterone-like activity which many people believe are important for female sexual drive. Most hormones in birth control pills have little to no testosterone-like activity because such hormones also cause acne and can elevate blood pressure and cholesterol. So what's happening is that you are suppressing the production of testosterone-like hormones and replacing them with hormones of little to no testosterone activity.

So, yes, it is possible that birth control pills can reduce your sex drive. On the other hand, many women who are freed of the fear of pregnancy, report an increase in sexual desire. In the end, it does tend to be an individual response.

Nono. Birth manipulate can rather minimize ladies's intercourse force. You must each be extra open with each and every different so you'll expand your safeguard along with her! Three years is an fulfillment! You've made it this lengthy along with her, who says you cannot do 3 extra years? Communication is rather key in any dating, and it certainly makes it final longer. Keep that during brain. If the intercourse force does not expand, or it rather turns into a burden among the 2 of you, she will constantly speak about it along with her healthcare professional, and turn to a brand new tablet.

Yes, a lower sexual drive can occur. It is not a common side effect, but I have seen cases where it has occurred.

No, but I would talk to my Dr. about this. It shouldn't be a problem if you are on the right medication.
