I know that Germany scored 4 goals and Costa Rica scored 2 goals. What does the (2:1) mean?

I think the score in brackets means the score line at half time.

2:1 is the score at half time.in this world cup you will see al the matches like that.

ex if brazil scores 5 goals in first half and australia score 0 and after the second match the score is 7 to brazil 4 to austarlia.the score will come like that " braz 7:4 (5:0) aus"
