because they think they're better than you, and they want to 'prove' that thing. Most of them are just boring persons, talking about their 'succeeds' in life.

I work with a material object "topper" who actually buys the best and spends his time talking about it all day. Then we have the lying "topper" who ones up anything any body's done and also suffers from Munchhausen disease so he's usually in a sling or cast giving him something else to talk about. We've known them for so long that we're past the point of irritation and mock them by making up bigger stories that of course makes them tell even bigger whoppers. They're not satisfied with their real life so they create one.

Some people are shallow to a point where nothing they do is ever good enough so they have to belittle what anyone else has done. I've met people like this, always claiming what they have or have done is better. I don't follow all this macho bs that says I have to drive a better car than bob down the road.....

the old topper...I just think those were the kids that were left in the play pins to long screaming for mommy. So as grown ups they do the same as being toppers...

A lot people need attention and lack of personality; they tend to feel better about themselves by talking about how great they are or how they have already done things in a major or greater proportion than the other person had. The real person they want to belive the things they said is himself/herself. Unfortunately or fortunately they do contradict themselves falling in lies to cover up more lies.

they are the worst of the lot! unfortunately they have a tendency to lie as well...i think it has a lot to do with how you grew/grow up! if your parents raised you as a confident person than this will most likely not happen! if they didn't then, you will become an adult with an inferiority complex always topping other people in any way!

Most people that like to talk, and want to talk with anyone who will listen have a need to prove themselves. So they engage in games of "oneupmanship".
These people also cannot admit when they don't know the answer to a question. If you ask them something and they don't know the answer, they will go out of their way to give you an answer they think you will want to hear, or give you a answer they think will impress you.

Its a control thing, most humans like to be the center of attention and if you have POWER over a conversation then it makes you feel important!

I don't know, but that makes me so mad, you can't even get all that you were going to say put of your mouth before they start in on how they did the same thing but it was 10 times worse or better. People like that obviuosly have no life or personality of their own.

I find people lke this to be very draining on a persons energy, because not only do they want to tell you how reat they are, but they also need constant reassurance from you that they are the bees knees. Very tiring

I know the feeling, those people drive me nuts. I just stop talking and laugh inside at the ignorance. They like the attention and I have to believe it makes them feel important and smart.
