Don't you hate it when you go to read someone's reply, but because of bad grammar, internet lingo like 2, ne1, etc. and ignorance, you end up squinting at the screen before saying f*ck it!!
Anways, it really has to do with the "hook" that someone mentioned earlier, and sex appeal. There are some very talented rap artists that I respect. Ice Cube, Snoop, Eminem, Dr. Dre (love his beats), Busta Rhymes, Missy, and a new respect goes to Chamillionaire (among others I haven't mentioned.) Then there's 50 Cent. Although I like some of his songs, he didn't write the beats. And if you really listen to his lyrics, they're not something that will ever blow you away. He sells sex. He's not that great at what he does. Oh well. Just change the channel and avoid watching "Cribs."

Because of image and a catchy hook.... But an image can make it more than that catchy hook... Catchy hook will only get you 1 song, image will get you a few cds
But this is the main reason I don't like unintelligent hard core Rap. Add at least 30 N-words, to a loop that has been passed around like a crack pipe, add a cool image that is slightly different than the rest and get ready for the rich white kids to give you the bling bling as they will more often go out and buy it (as others wind up burning the CD after one person buys it, as it will probably be in the trash in 3 years anyway when all the millions are almost gone and the fame has faded hard)

Because it's called a stage persona. Tupac Shakur actually went to schools for the Gifted and Talented all of his life. Lil' John attended some of the most prestigious private schools in Atlanta, and his parents are Multimillionares. "Thug" sales best these days, and there on a "mission for commission" and being intelligent doesn't cut it in the business. Qommon raps intelligently, but he's sales are much lower than say, 50 cent. I believe that intelligence is coming back to rap, with artists like Kanye West leading us into a new era in hip-hopp. At least I hope so.

Well, think of it this way - "talented rappers" is an oxymoron, and untalented rappers is redundant.
Life isn't fair, either.
Too bad all the good music is or is dying or is already dead...Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, the Eagles. All of a sudden people who have no musical talent whatsoever can start talking fast and rapping with Beethoven's Fur Elise playing in the background. Weird, freakin' weird man...

Because to BE a rapper, one must be ignorant and untalented, and must also lack creativity and have no practical skills. And the youngest generation values all of those qualities highly for some stupid reason.

Sorry to break your bubble, but I think Curtain Call is Eminem's last album. From what I heard he's going to stick to producing with Dre on the Shady Aftermath label.

because there are a lot of ignorant, untalented people who lack taste and skills out there who go and buy their CD's and support them 100%. I know it's a shame.

My friend told me that all you need to get a chance at fame is a catchy hook. Its the hook that gets people, like a fishing hook, not the rapper's talent unfortunately..
