there `s a lot of honest people out there, but does it mean a person is dishonest if they find a sum of money (with no idenitity) in an old abandoned house? what do you think you would do, and why?

Turn it in to the police and it may ultimately be yours anyway. Than you won't have to deal with the guilt. Don't worry about the IRS; found money is not taxable income so the IRS won't get their piece.

Depends. Gotta evaluate all factors before making a decision. I'll give you an example: lets say that this abandoned house is in an area where alot of illegal activity takes place. A gang operates out of the abandoned house but all get arested in a raid. You go in and find some abandoned cash, but upon leaving the house your spotted by a member that was not arrested. Gang leader gets out on a technicality and recieves the info that you where the last person in the house before the money comes up missing. In this case it would have been better to either leave the doe, or return it to the owner to ensure your safety.
(Damn I think too much).
Lets say your in a nice part of the city, a very wealthy business man decides that he is tired of living in that house and decides to abandon the house. He calls you up and says "I'm leaving. Go to my house and look through it to see if there is anything you want because I'm going to call the salvation army and donating anything left. You go to the house and find the couple of grand. He is aware that he left a couple of thousand. Yeah that situation would be cool with me.

I Guess it would really depend on the definition of "Old Empty House"... If it per-say would have been empty for a few years and abandoned, then surely I would Hold on to this sack of cash..
On the other hand if it something that possibly stashed by some recent Thief, the chances are no one would ever come forward to claim it and I would be entitled to it anyhow, unless it was marked or something.. Either way Finders Keepers Loosers ...You know...

well, I guess it's not being dishonest if you keep it, I mean, it's abandoned, right??? So it's no one's.
But I would turn it in, just because the previous owners might be looking for it, and I would feel guilty otherwise. It's not my money, and even if I need it, oh well, it's not mine, and it's not mine to keep. Life will keep revolving, and I will feel good. Heck, the owners might not show up, and I might get to keep the cash!! That'd be even better, cause you feel good and get a sum of money. But even if I didn't, that'd still be all right.

Just keep it for a while, making decision of such situation is not quiet easy. Try to find the old owner of the said old empty house or their relatives if possible. Then find out if they're in needs, may be it can help you to decide what to do. If you do the right decision I'm sure God has his own reward for you. If ever you found out that they don't need it anymore, may be its really meant for you. All you have to do is share it, to the institution either home of the aged or orphans. God bless

Well, first of all I would have a huge moral argument with me, myself and I. Then I probably would turn it in and know if no one claims it then it is mine, all MINE!! However, if someone did claim it, then I guess it wasn't mine in the first place. I just happened to stumble across it one day in an ABANDONED HOUSE!! What was I doing there anyway?? I get so tired of arguing with myself. LOL

Who knows who lost it and what troubles that fellow underwent.What curses he had sworn in to thos who get that money.If the money was hard earned and was with a curse or purposely left for some one to buy his/her sifferings it does happen so.
May be we donate it or atleast 50% of it for any charity and the balance too is retained for any kind of contingency and for further help to poor or for donation to church.
But still to be honest what I would do at that time would depend upon my plight at that time and my mood.
But if there is some remote chance of locatring the owner I would make honest attempt.but secretive;ly selectively not tom toming that I located a fortune etc.

I would diffently keep it. Save some for a rainy day.
The more you discuss it the closer it becomes to being claimed.
And since you don't know who really lost it, you wouldn't want to

I would really like to keep it, but it would be a total guilt trip so I suppose I would turn it in to see if it is claimed, then, of course, the IRS would want their piece of the action.
