Everything slides by the censors these days. Anything goes and I mean anything. If stuff as vulgar and crass as uncensored Bad Santa can be shown in the middle of the daytime on cable TV, and if pornography is allowed be advertised on cable, then the FCC either no longer exists or is perpetually drunk off their asses. So which is it?

Cable TV is regulated under different sets of standards than broadcast. Why? Because broadcast is just that -- goes over the airwaves and is available to anyone with an antenna.

Cable is subscription only, and just about every cable setup comes with the ability to block certain channels, or block certain ratings. Or just not get cable service at all. Nothing is forcing you to receive cable, certainly not in the same way that broadcast signals exist.

Because cable is subscription only, that means the government has less authority to control the content. Which is a good thing.

If you don't like something, you can choose not to watch. If the government doesn't like something, and if we allow them to control everything, then we've lost.

Listen to ALL of the radio stations in your area. You will hear the same guy reading the news (from one of the local TV stations) and you will hear DJs doing commercials on every other station. That is what the FCC does today. They try to push for more media consolidation.

The FCC thinks that it is OK for one company to own every radio station, TV channel, and newspaper in any given market. They ARE the broadcasters, so why would they try to regulate their own masters?

80% of the news that you hear, read, or see comes from one source. That means that ONE corporation controls what is printed in 80% of newspapers, what is broadcast on 80% of local, cable, and network news, and what is heard on 80% of radio stations. That is what the FCC does today.

The FCC exists, yes. What do they do? They place limitations on radio and television stations as to what swear words they can say...and on television...what programming they can film/show.

Why do you feel that you need the FCC? Couldn't you just not watch want you don't like or do you want other people not to watch what you don't like?

Honestly, I wish they didn't exist. I'd rather choose what I watch than the government choose for me.

They still do their jobs. Just not as good a job as they could be doing.
