Cruising is my absolute favorite way to travel. The only time I don't think it works for people is if you really want to spend a lot of time at your destination, you really are limited in time at the ports. I think cruising is a good way to explore an area before spending a whole vacation there.
I don't think it is scary at all. I actually prefer the days at sea, it is just so relaxing and enjoyable. You look out your window and all you can see is water as far as the eye can see. It is so great. If you have been on any boats, I would never compare cruising to a regular boat. The stablizers keep the boat so stable that you have to have some pretty "wicked" waves to feel anything. I've been on cruises with waves that were 20+ feet and to tell you the truth, I thought it was kind of fun.
NCL is a nice line. It's not one of the most luxuries lines, but still very enjoyable. They do offer freestyle cruising, which is a little different from the other lines. Some people enjoy having this feature, other people don't like it, but each person is different. To me, I'm on vacation, I have no worries, so I could care less ;-)
I am assuming this is your first cruise, you are going to have a blast. A word of caution, cruising has been known to become addictive, not too bad!!! Cruising is wonderful and in my opinion the true vacation. You really have no where you need to be, no time frames, anything you need to do is within a short walk, the staff is great, the food is good and you are pampered from the minute you get to the dock until you touch that dock again days later.
Relax and enjoy the cruise, you will have a blast!!!!

I've sailed with them more times than I care to remember. Far from being one of the better cruise lines, but no safety issues.
If this is your first cruise, you will enjoy it!! You don't miss something you never had. However once you cruise on any other the other major lines, odds are you won't go back.
As for scary, nothing to fear!!! Driving across town is far more dangerous. Most of the time you will forget you are even on a ship. Almost all ships now have stabilizers, so the old rock'n roll is gone for the most part.
As for storms, don't worry. As a rule they will try to sail around them if they can, and if you must go through one, they will haul rear. During that time you can enjoy the indoor activities. (all safe)
If it's a major storm like a hurricane, no fear, they won't let the ship anywhere near it. At worse you might get a couple of extra days for free. This happened to me in 2004. One of the hurricanes was hitting Florida, so we spent and extra three days out, and even picked up and extra port of call. You might say we got 10 days for the price of 7. ;-)

NCL is fine. As the previous poster mentioned, the cruise ships will sail around storms, on occasions, the seas can get a little rough. My advice would be to take ginger pills or sea sick pills. Start the day before you are scheduled to cruise. As far as safety goes, most incidents are related to young people and alcohol. Keep in mind that you are sailing with up to 4000 people (crew included) so there is the possibility of crime, Just use common sense as you would on a land based vacation as far as dealing with other people and protecting your valuables.

I have been on about a dozen cruises and about half on NCL. The ships these days all have automatic stabilizers that prevent almost all of the rocking and swaying. The ride is pretty smooth, except when you first leave Miami or Ft Lauderdale and cross the Gulf stream. After that most of the time you do not even know you are moving. The bigger the ship the more stable they seem to be. Its not sceary at all.
