NTFS because of performance and security, also if you're using a FAT32 u cant have a single file with size larger than 4GB (if u always create an ISO from DVD, or have a large movie) and if you're using NTFS there's no such limit on a single file

Both the formats have their own merits.
FAT32 is better for maintenance of working speed of the machine and has some features of its own. This can work even on a P-1
NTFS is better for the computers where you are connected with internet and want to work a lot. This is more secure and compressed. This is recommended for P-4 or an equal machine.

NTFS is best with XP. Windows 98 networked computers can read it fine (as a mapped drive). You just can't boot to Windows 98 and read it.

There are a lot of technical reasons for each one but I prefer NTSF because I find it more reliable amongst other things.
There is a bit of info on the net if you google it.

If you do not need another, older OS (as, say, Win98) to be able reading data from your XP partition, use NTFS.
