All right. Let me say this and get it off my chest in hopes that someone will listen and understand.
ARod is not overrated. He is one of the great all around players of his generation. That said, he does not step up his game in clutch situations. He continues at the same level. Take a look at these numbers.
At the end of last year ARod's 162 game Average was: .307 BA .385 OBP .577 Slg. 44HR 125 RBI 127 RS 23 SB and 6 CS.
Postseason in 31 games: .305 BA .393 OBP .543 Slg. 6 HR 16 RBI 19 RS 4 SB 3 CS
Runners in Scoring Position Career 1347 games: .305 BA .397 OBP .557 Slg 105 HR 790 RBI
You get the picture. His bases loaded numbers actually improve. His game stays consistent. His numbers go down with Runners in Scoring position and 2 outs, but skyrocket with the bases loaded and 2 outs. His game is very consistent. Most players would give their right arm for his clutch numbers.
The problem is you see a guy like Jeter or Hideki Matsui and that's a whole different thing. They really click in those situations. Their batting averages and power numbers go through the roof in those situations. ARod stays the same players. (Pretty Damn good mind you). He's a .305 hitter all the time. Jeter is a .300 hitter most of the time, in the clutch he's a .350 hitter. That's why his career BA is .08 points higher that ARod.
Joe DiMaggio had this problem. He was just real consistent. Meanwhile Kirk Gibson was a tremendous Clutch performer. Is Kirk Gibson better than Joe DiMaggio? Of course not.
He's not overrated. He's as good as he is. Distributed equally all the time.

On one hand, it truly is plausible because AFraud lives in Miami in the course of the offseason and the Marlins choose some thing -- even a chunk of crap, washed-up, steroids-using, third baseman -- to objective to entice followers next season. That reported, I doubt the Marlins receives him for not some thing even if the Yankees take Bell, so as that part of the tale is astounding. I, for my section, imagine Miami may be nuts to address ARoid because he's a participant thoroughly and fully without upside, and he's so previous now that a replace of surroundings received't reenergize his occupation. Loria had a run very last season the position he blew money on "call" gamers yet none of them were washed-up even as he signed them. i extremely doubt that this deal pans out.

eddiepaxil makes several very good points but he doesn't go far enough. Here is a comparison of A-Rod's, Ortiz, and Jeter's career numbers in the clutch.
RISP (Runners in scoring position)
OPS
Rodriguez .954
Ortiz .874
Jeter .822
RISP w/ 2outs
Ortiz .901
Rodriguez .850
Jeter .842
Bases Loaded
Rodriguez 1.081
Ortiz 1.056
Jeter .820
Rodriguez and Ortiz are far more productive than Jeter in the clutch and Rodriguez is a little better than Ortiz.
People calling A-rod "A-fraud" are mistaken. Jeter's clutch play is an illusion. Rodriguez gets the job done.
Anyone wishing to dispute this with facts are welcome to try. I'm open to any reasonable points of view.

A Rod is a solid field. but he belongs back at shortstop his natural postion. He is a good hitter but your right he never comes though when needed. Look at David Ortiz and how many times he came though for the Sox last year amazing. SO I'd say he is overrated

Arod is not overrated. He is what he is---a commercialized superstar who thinks way too much about performing rather than 'just doing it.' He performed in Texas and seattle because there was no pressure to win. Those franchised had no history. He comes to the Yanks, which is JEter's team and he tries to hard to 'be the man.' They send this guy to the Pirates, he'll hit 70 hr's.

He's not overrated. Afterall, he is the reigning MVP. I just think he's in a slump this year. THIS YEAR he hasn't been earning his paycheck. He leads, by far, his team in strikeouts and he refuses to come thru in the clutch. I'm expecting him to hit at his potential after the All-Star break.
