Probably exactly what we fear aliens may do if they come to our planet.
Take an organism and observe it/ dissect it before returning it to its habitat
Conquer areas and make outposts to contact the home base (earth)
and things of that nature
basic exploration and colonization, I'd say

first off, i would think only the extremely wealthy people could move there and the common people would be left in earths ruin.. .that is unless the government got involved or something...
but considering we actually do find a planet able to sustain life i believe none of us(currently) would be able to live there anyway...
this is because mostly assumed is that the planets nearby are unsustainable for life
and assumedly if we did find a planet like ours it would be light years away... our technology hasnt advanced far enough yet to reasonably travel that far, especially not in our lifetime...
but im no expert though.
nothing we think we know is truly definate and proven fact. our universe is largly unexplored, and we cant rely on the mere speculation among scientists and popular media for what is fact.
maybe theres a habitable place on a moon or on a planet nearby...
or maybe they've already found one and people just arent privalaged to know...
to us our planet could be like the truman show... we know nothing tangible about space and can only accept what we feel or are told is true... this goes for anything unanswwerable.
but anyway, theres really no definate answer that could be given for this question right now...
will just have to continue spending billions of dollars for this until we get an answer ... with us benefitting mostly from the byproducts of space exploration... like duct tape... and foam!
ps. i recommend searching yahoo answers for "the pros and cons of space exploration" its is a good supplement to this reading.- hope my answer helped a bit, though its not my true opinion, its just enough to make one think.i think...anyway... good bye.

Finding an earth like planet which has long term survival prospects, in a nearby star system near a star that may not go nova is a herculean task by itself I think if we find it and it's uninhabited, then it will act as beacon for humanity, a new hope for mankind, and may be in a millennium of its finding, the first few humans would leave for inhabiting it. If you look back in history, the finding of the Americas resulted in hyperactivity in all fields of science, in literature, culture. The same will happen and humans will rush to settle on it, once they are assured that survival is possible on that planet.

Knowing humanity as it is today, we'll wait until this planet is good and trashed before taking any sort of action - unless we begin exploring that planet for future monetary gain/trashing of its own. Hopefully there's intelligent life already on the planet that would be capable and willing to blow anything up we send at it before it gets there. Just hang up a big flashing intergalactic neon sign - "No Vacancies"

We will go there, mess with the planet a little bit, a few world wars, a number of political revolutions, some nuclear storms, and the planet will evolve so significantly that in the end, we'll have to find another one more planet to sustain our sorry asses.

To be honest, I think there would be a great outpouring of apathy. We aren't even to the point where we could put people on the Moon indefinitely, and it's just right next door. A planet in another star system? Forget about it.
When they announced there might have been life on Mars, I asked everyone I knew what they thought and they said "who cares, it's so far away and it doesn't do me any good".
I think that's what would happen. Until we could feasibly get there and explore the place, it would be "who cares, it's so far away from me...".

ya first thing we shall do is to get there and if the people are less intelligent there then teach them the language and the architecture
WATCH ALIEN VS PREDATOR for more
if there are no people then we shall rule the planet by ourselves
