Most people mix "baby talk" with normal speech when talking to a baby. The baby is watching your expressions and listening to the tone of your voice more than the words you're using. Just relax and enjoy your baby.

You know something--it doesn't really matter! If you speak adult language, your child *may* speak more clearly for the first few months. If you speak "baby talk", your baby *may* start speaking a few weeks earlier.
By the time the child is 2, it will be *totally* irrelevant!
Just to give you a really solid example, one of my kids used to mispronounce a particular word when he was very little (just because he didn't have the muscle control in his mouth to say it correctly). We thought it was really cute and started using *his* word all the time. He basically *never* heard the correct pronunciation again. But, when he matured enough to say it correctly, he started pronouncing it the "adult" way. Babies and young children are really *smart*!! They will learn what they need to know!

I would talk to the baby normally, only because the child should start off knowing proper english instead of always talking geeberish or slang.

Speaking as a parent, I believe that you should do what is most comfortable for you. Just because I talk to my son normally and feel comfortable doing so doesn't mean your son will turn out any worse because you feel more comfortable talking to him in "mommy-speak." The most important thing you can do is enjoy the time you have with your baby while he/she is at this age.

I think you should speak normally to a baby. Not only is listening to an adult speak baby talk enough to make any other adult cringe, but my parents have friends that spoke baby talk all the time to their child and now he is seven and still speaks baby and it drives me nuts.

Research actually shows that baby talk can slow down a child's ability to properly enunciate and use words in proper grammatical form. I personally feel it's better to use full, structured sentences with children. We also use American Sign Language (ASL) with our children (our oldest is autistic and it gives him a creative outlet for his hands when he's frustrated) but we verbalize the complete sentence as we sign it as well.
For more information on research, you can look up the Harvard Medical Journal and the John Hopkins Medical University Newsletter.

I talked pretty normally to my babies, sure I repeated things alot and used the "mommy" voice. But I talked to my babies all day about everything. And I think this is why they both spoke very well very early.

It's best to speak normally. It usually doesn't change the child in any way, but in some cases the child may talk that like that when they grow older because they're so used to it. But I'm sure that doesn't happen much, and I wouldn't worry too much about it.
