Most kids are using their version of phonics, and adults either have someone else to spell check or don't care...or..."they" are using "computer phonics" which eliminates the vowels.
Using more than one punctuation mark, or incomplete sentences, and other formerly "incorrect grammar/spelling" is now considered "acceptable" when you are speaking/writing to a particular audience. The audience on here are either untrained because of age, education, or just plain uncouth, else they automatically use "proper" spelling/grammar.
As a case in point: "Johnnycakes" was being "cute" with his answer, but he was wrong. The commas set off a phrase describing people;cannot was spelled correctly and does not have to be a contraction; and multiple punctuation marks are used for EMPHASIS in order to make a point. The educated audience would have known/do know that. As for understanding to whom you communicate, a series of phrases, objects, or elements in common are separated by commas;a series of complete sentences with subject and verb are separated by semicolons.

People on here and in general CAN spell but choose otherwise. I'd agree with the others that it's highly likely that they're in too much of a hurry, lazy or simply don't care.
Regarding poor grammar use, I'd also agree with the others that it's an indication of how poor our schools have become.
I'd add that although email, messenger and internet communications such as these lend themselves to more informal language, that shouldn't excuse improper grammar usage.

Because proper grammar and spelling is no longer emphasized in schools any longer. Also, writing is considered a lost art in the school system.
Most of those that do not spell or use grammar correctly are fresh out of school or they are still in school. I suppose many are drop-outs.
Young people are not taught to take pride in what they do anymore... Their questions and shallow answers reveal this tragedy.

On here, I think it's a matter of getting your answer in fast! It gets in the way of spelling and grammar!
And in general, well I could not say for certain. I am too weak a speller myself. Relatively large vocabulary, but I have a hard time using it properly.

Lol...I asked a similar question approximately a month ago. You need to understand the average age on this site sometimes is under 18. Proof that parents are failing to enforce homework and learning at home is in how their kids write and talk. Sad commentary, I know, and I am a former teacher.

Because most people are lazy, and they assume the person receiving the information will understand. Also some people decide not to use spell check. They just want their points for answering a question.

I think people are LAZY. It's not that they don't know how to spell, they are to lazy to spell it the right way. When you mizbel, I mean misspell a word it is easier to leave it that to press back space a few times and correct the mistake.

It's okay nurse, we have to take this in stride. The shorty words people use to communicate aren't as annoying as blatant misspells or type-o's. It's more worrisome that we have a spell check available and not everyone uses it.
Sit back and breathe deeply and think of your happy place.

I have no idea. It's hard trying to read some of the stuff people type.
I think they can't spell because most the people asking questions are little kiddies.....
Unless they are drop outs???
Be careful what if it wears off on us?
LOL
