Since you are probably not old enough to know what was going on during that time, why would it matter to you?
Back in the 1970's, Iran and Iraq had been fighting.
Iran, back then supported terrorism, and had killed even one of our journalist.
The US Government decided to help Iraq, which back then was not a murderous dictatorship, to fight and contain Iran.
Iran at that time had also taken many US Embassy hostages.
I think IF you study history and not just jump at a picture, you would understand how the world got where it did.
IF we would have fought the terrorist from IRAN when they took over the Embassy, or even when they killed the Israelis during the Olympics, and during the days of Jimmy Carter, then we would not have had to support Iraq in the Iran/Iraq war.
If we would have helped reshape Afghanistan after Russia attacked it and LOST, maybe the Taliban would not have assumed the leadership vacuum and we would never had needed to be there.
If Clinton would have taken the most wanted man in the world when he was HANDED over to us, there would not have been a 9/11
We can play this game all day long, but in the long run, STUDY your history, or you are doomed to repeat it.
