I absolutely love to read. I think that if more people thought that reading was awesome that we would have a great number of people who were educated and smart and intelligent. Reading literally can take you to somewhere else and you will never have to leave your spot. It's like going through some portal that takes you to lands not recorded on the modern map.
I love to read books in the genre of fantasy, realistic fiction, and occastionally historical fiction. Great authors like Roald Dahl, Karen Hesse, and whoever wrote the book Tangerine really bring out the story like it's really happening. Because I have to go to my babysitter's and her son only plays video games and doesn't do anything else, I always sit around and read the book I brought. That means reading for like 3 hours at a time! But I think it's a great way to spend my time, and it's a real boredom antidote. So I think it would be great to meet someone who has the same urge to read for hours everyday this summer!!!

So I have a favor to ask everyone on Yahoo! Answers: Could you all read like one hour everyday? You have no idea what that's going to do to your brain and your functions! I know I'm only 11, but I've read enough about the human body and the brain that I know what will happen if you read a lot. You might get "sushy eyes" which means your eyes get all blurred and you feel slightly dizzy, but that doesn't mean you are suddenly gonna get sick just from reading. It really does wonders.
And reading isn't supposed to actually be done to help your brain. You are supposed to read for enjoyment, and possible research to learn more. The more you obtain while reading the better your future will be and your functions will result to better.... results.
I encourage everyone, all ages (except for babies and toddlers) to read, read, READ this summer! If you don't know how to read or you are having trouble with it, I suggest taking extra classes or talk to your teacher. Have fun reading!!!!!!!

Good for you for opting to read instead of playing video games! I find the best way to unwind is by curling up in a big comfy chair at Borders with a cup of coffee. Not only do you get to read a book, but if you don't end up liking it, you've saved money and can find one that you do! oh and there's a coffee shop right inside so you can keep hydrated/refreshed and reading for hours and hours on end. I've also found it reassuing that so many parents bring their kids into bookstores as a treat or reward - what better way to reward a kid than with a new, exciting adventure to read?
Happy summer!

I can get hung up on a book to the point of forgetting to eat and not putting it down for a day or so till its finished. I could not imagine a world without books! I have about 500 or so, and only unemployment has kept me from buying more. I am so glad you enjoy reading and believe well read people are the best! My dream is to make enough money one day to buy a house like the one on Charmed and have my own library. That or my own bookshop that people could be comfortable in and read a bit. I'm almost 50, so really need to get on that. :)

I read for a long time over the summer!! I don't even know how long i read for. I sit down, get a book, and just start reading. I get transported to another world and all of my troubles are left at home. it's an awsome boredom buster. I'm 12 and once when I had a lot of time, I sat down and read from about 2pm to 6pm. I couldn't stop! it's like an addiction....lol. But sadly, I have never met anyone who really likes to read like I do. (If you ever want to talk, feel free to ask for my e-mail address!)

Reading fulfils some part of me that I didn't know existed until I read my first book all by myself.I was hooked from then own.I read something everyday even if I have read it before.
Try 'Five go off in a caravan' by Enid Blyton. It is part of the famous five book series about four kids and a dog who have adventures. It was the book which got me hooked.I was 10 at that time.

I have loved to read since I was kid... now that I am a bigger kid, I struggle to find the time because of work and family, but I do manage it. Read things that interest you & don't be afraid to be proud of it! I don't think anyone I know has read some of the things I simply adore, like Edith Wharton's House of Mirth or Frank Herbert's Dune... Reading really impacts the way your speak and write, and people can really tell the difference! Take Care & Best of luck to you!

If you enjoy reading or if you're reading something enjoyable, it's definitely relaxing. As far as being constructive, I would only agree with that statement if the reader takes something away from what he or she is reading. If the reader finishes a book and is no better off than when he or she started, it's no better than watching TV or movies.

Yes I love reading. I am very busy but I always read before going to sleep. I like almost all kinds of books, science fiction, mystery, detective, romantic, etc. even religious books (like the Bible or HH the Dalai Lama's books!). It's great to read!

i totally agree. i am only 13 and i have read all of the books in my house, half of the books in my primary and i am working my way through the books in my secondary school library. We are so similar it is uncanny. I read any books, from little kids books to books for adults (and no I don't mean pornos) it is great for your mind and it helps many things such as concentration.
Keep reading hunni!
p.s. I am from Scotland.

Hey, you're a cool kid! For your age, might I suggest Peg Keret books, she's a great author....Also, read the book HOOT before you see the movie, it's really great too. Alice Hoffman has some really good books you may enjoy too, great fantasy books.
