A better question would be "What don't you use them for?" Mathematics is vital for engineering, business, and living well in modern civilization. It is also valuable as a form of recreation for some, much like crossword puzzles. At the lowest levels of study it may be difficult to see the application of math to the real world, but it gets more amazing the more one knows of it. When I was younger, I thought math was just a bunch of rules that never changed and rarely applied to anything real . . . oh, how wrong I was!
